Tonight he did a good job of moving the ball but it was mainly him creating the initial movement through his passing to then a secondary action involving two other players. So numbers wise you don't see it in the box score since he wouldn't get the assist or points. For that to change he really needs to work on his dribbling to create separation to then have the opportunity to take advantage with his size and passing, he did it a little but could have a lot more. He was a lot more willing to dribble and create last year (whatever limited chances he had after Fred, Gary, Siakam took their turns).

I don't know about an ankle injury since I don't think Nurse would play him 40 minutes if it's serious but if it's something more and Barnes isn't letting the staff know about it I hope they can sense it and be more precautionary with him.

Didn't you call him soft in the game thread? So do you think he's injured or not?

If you're playing, I'm judging you like you're healthy.

Sit out if you're unhealthy.

It doesn't make sense to call someone soft and then turn around and say you're concerned with his ankle. You being concerned with his ankle implies that he's got an ankle injury that he's playing through which would technically make him the opposite of soft. LOL.

I'm not here for the "I'm playing thru my injuries". That isn't tough to me.

Protect players from themselves or you get a FVV situation where their body breaks down on them.

You can say he played badly tonight (which he didn't), regardless of whether or not he was injured because if he's out there then he's expected to perform. But calling him soft just doesn't make any sense.

There were times you could see him limping in the 4th. His ankles are still bothering him. He didn't have a lot of burst to get to his spots. Still played well despite being inefficient.

Nah, he would of rolled on the floor for 3 minutes and continue to play and then roll on the floor again.

Barnes looks less coordinated with his body this season. He isn't moving as fluid as he was last season. I wonder if he added some muscle or weight that he's still getting used to playing with.

I think he has less space to operate this year based on where he’s been getting the ball. He’s never gonna be a guy to split a double team or navigate tight spaces yet we are often putting him in those positions this year whereas he had way more clear out opportunities last year it seems. It could be our O or it could be the scouting report, but he doesn’t seem to be getting the ball in the post or on the elbow the same way.

Also, I think he’s too focused on using what he worked on this past offseason rather than what his bread and butter has been his entire life. He’s gotta understand that working on stuff shouldn’t replace his core game, which was already very effective, but instead should add to it. It’s like, we know you can shoot now, Scottie. Still, get in the paint and cause havoc and use the jumper to punish them when they respond by packing the paint against you.

At the same time, I don’t think Barnes has been 100% healthy all year. He doesn’t seem like the second jump is there the way it was last year.

Yeah Dosumnu was just blowing by him during a stretch in the fourth. But he came back and did good things on offense. I want to see him put a full game together, no coasting
There goes my hero. Watch him as he goes.

Scottie is tied with Curry for the league lead in heaves so far. Almost nobody does it anymore because guys don't want to ruin their shooting numbers. I really respect the fact that Scottie doesn't care. Fred also does it a lot.

I hate it when guys obviously wait for the clock to expire then heave it.

I said it before but these heave shots shouldnt count on statsheet as a shot attempt unless it goes in (similar to fouled shot attempt)

He did not gain any weight.

Overall we're kind of seeing a glimpse of what Scottie is. In the truest sense he is a point guard on offense, and when he uses his length and strength he is a match up nightmare.Once he becomes a more consistent 3 point shooter, he's going to be a match up problem.

One thing I will critique Scottie on is his shot selection. Last season he shot 33% of his shots from 3-10 feet in which he converted them at a 50% clip. He's only shooting 9% of his shots from there this season. I am happy he is shooting and converting more 3's this season from 20% to 33% attempts compared to last season, but he definetly needs to get back down near the basket, and then the kid is going to be a certified bucket.

Hard to believe hes already this good and he just turned 21.

A lot of the moves he added to his game are taking him away from the basket.

-turnaround jumpers
-step-backs
-turnaround with the knee out Ala Dirk

He's adding to his bag while still learning what to do and when.

It's crazy that people are expecting him to have put it all together by year 2. He has holes in his game, his role is not yet clearly defined, he's got an ankle injury and he's still averaging 15/7/5 on 49/40/77 splits. Yet we still have people proclaiming that he's done as a 1st option, that he'll never be that. People claiming that he's soft. I have never seen this kind of treatment for a second year player.
