We got to see a glimpse of last year's Jokic tonight with a casual 21/6/10/2 on 90/100/100% shooting in just 26 minutes. Even with his passive start it's too soon to count him out of the race.

Jokic is barely trying and putting up 20/11/9 on 72 TS%. No way he keeps that efficiency up lol.

Jokic just strolling along and trying to stay healthy and energized for playoffs.

But Jokic strolling is still MVP worthy lol.

I think Luka wins if he stays healthy and they win 54+.

I figured he would make an effort to get the others integrated and rolling early on. Gianni has been similar, especially in first halves. He's trying to move the ball, set screens and get everyone else going. He tends to hunt scoring in third quarters.

They're pretty different situations though. With the return of MPJ and Murray as well as the acquistition of KCP and Brown, Jokic has a ton more offensive options to get involved instead of having to do everything himself. This is visible in his usage rate dropping from 31.9% last year to 23.6% now, he's also taking around 6 FGA less per game this season so far.

Giannis on the other hand has to pick up some offensive slack caused by the absense of Middleton and Connaughton. He's currently averaging a career high in both FGA and FTA, while slightly upping his usage rate from 34.9% last year to 37.3% now. His PPG also went up compared to last year, while his APG stayed exactly the same. It has to be said though how dominant Giannis is on offense when he turns it on, to take on such a big scoring load without it feeling like the rest of the team isn't involved enough is a good thing to have.

Jokic is not MVP this season but he's like one of the best passers of all times, not just for a big man but for the players in general. These are may favorite passes from him, one touch sling pass.

Seems like the meta narrative is heavily pushing towards Doncic... but still, from my point of view, both ends of the courts, it's Giannis and nobody else.

Giannis is putting out numbers like a peak Kareem Abdul-Jabbar would envy.

Doncic does the same, they are high usage players.

I don't think Mavs win 54 games this season. They would be lucky to win 50 this season.

Nobody else is a bit absurd imo considering what Doncic (and others to a lesser extent) are doing

But he is leading the race rn but it's mostly team records that are the decider rn

The answer is obviously Lauri Markkanen for the 8-3 Jazz which would extrapolate to a 60 win season :)

Really? I think Luka alone is worth 50 wins nowadays(similar to young Cle-Lebron). Plus only 4 other teams in the West am I really confident in getting at least 50+ wins.

Other potentials are the Pels and the Wolves should improve as the season progresses (it's going to take a couple months for them to get accustomed to this fit, but I think it will work and that they should approach 50). And hell the Jazz at this rate look legit; they're top 10 in both offense and defense :o

The Warriors might fall a bit shy if they continue to tinker with their bench for a few months.

Wolves are just as likely to implode if they continue to struggle, guys turning on each other, pointing blame etc as they r to improve imo

I highly doubt they'll win 54+

Pels are unlikely as well as they seem to he about who we thought they were..and when their stars will miss games, u know how that goes

I think the Mavs should win 54+ comfortably if Luka plays 70+ games
I think Wood will look better as well as they gel further

You don't win or you don't want?
I'd say there is much bigger chance for them to win 54 games this season that there was to make the CF last year.

luka wont win because his style is still too close to harden

i remmeber the rockets won 56 games and their second best player was eric gordon, and they gave the award to more athletic giannis. I dont think the nba likes to market slow footed high iq players otherwise harden would be a 3x mvp

That's fair, meanwhile Luka is putting out numbers like a peak Lebron and MJ would envy. As of this point in the season I'm probably leaning Luka but these two are the definite favourites so far. That said, both have absurd USG atm and I expect their numbers to drop a bit as the season goes on.
