If they're doubling and zoning up, we should be getting something. Instead they shut us down on all 3 levels. It's not like we were missing good shots. We got nothing. Frustrating.
The effort was there. The defense was okay. The execution almost all night was pretty bad.
Its probably best to say we're doing load management on Ben Simmons and make him earn his minutes. The guy barely looks like an NBA player. It's tough to watch. I don't think it's an aggression or mind set thing either. The dude is not skilled and basically lost his athleticism over night.

It's clear Ben doesn't have the same burst or strength as he did on the 76ers, and he's not close to the same player without it. I think it's affecting his confidence as a result and then created a self perpetuating vicious cycle, where the dip in confidence stops him from being aggressive which further takes away his physical advantages.
Back injuries are no joke but he's young enough in theory to make a recovery if we play it right and don't set unrealistic expectations on him until he's further along physically. It'd be a shame if he was washed up at 25...

I'd say Patty has been fine, he's shooting 45% from 3. He has size issues on defense but so does Seth
If anything, if we played more Patty instead of Seth today we might have pulled this one out.

I've watched Ben Simmons since high school in Australia - I knew his high school PE (GYM) teacher when he was 14. Injury is not his problem.
There is an old saying, I think from Mark Twain - Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak and to remove all doubt. That's Simmons in basketball. He would rather hide and have people talk about how good he would be than actually play the game and prove that he is not up to what was originally expected. He is happy to sit on the bench and not play rather than face the pressure of a game. He publicly pretends he wants to be out there, but internally he is looking for an excuse not to play.
He has a massive yet fragile ego, and surrounds himself with people that are yes men looking to get in on the golden goose. His family are a cancer and have not looked after his best interests.
Unfortunately Simmons is cooked. What he needs to do is drop the ego, get rid of the leeches in his family that he surrounds himself with, start shooting with his correct hand and have the attitude of starting from the bottom. But it will never happen.

The moment Kyrie started his BS that was the end for this group, as much as its been alright to watch them the last 3 games, the team is not going anywhere. Harris, Curry, and Simmons look cooked. I'm not high on Cam at all being asked to shoulder a ton of responsibility.
If there is any year for us to blow it up, it's now. We can at least secure a top 3 pick.
Buy Kyrie out and see what players on our roster can fetch draft capital. Claxton will definitely be a coveted piece, and I think some teams will bite on Cam as well. Royce can net us a 1st from a contender.

Not sure why Joe keeps getting smoke when he played well and hit a huge 3
Outside of that, i agree.
This is a fun group and if Seth + Joe get back to form and we find a backup center, I think we can win a lot of games. But this teams ceiling depended on
Kyrie being fully committed
And Ben playing at his normal all star level.
Neither has happened. Kyrie is never happening. Ben maybe gets there after all star break but who knows. Either way, our ceiling now is probably 2nd round. This is the time to rebuild.

Seriously. Joe is coming off two ankle surgeries and about a whole year off. His defense has been very good, his energy has been great. His shooting has been below his standards, but he's shaking off some rust and regaining game-level conditioning. There's no reason to think his shot won't get back up to his standards.

Watching Simmons last night, he looked so disinterested and was just looking to get his minutes in and leave the game asap. I don’t know anymore. I’m not against player development but player development is an experiment when you don’t have so much money invested in a team.
You can’t be 4-7 and have 500 million invested in a roster that was supposed to have championship aspirations We should reset and move on if rebuilding is the goal.

I think Ben is absolutely committed defensively and to create for others. However, he is deathly afraid to draw contact and thats going to be an issue the longer the season goes along.
People make jokes, but after watching him play, I 100% believe that he is suffering from mental health issues. It's like he has some type of agoraphobia when it comes to getting fouled and having to make FTs.
If you've developed agoraphobia, situations that were once routine to a person can become stressful, anxiety induced events that can leave you broken. He needs to be in treatment with a sports psychologist if he isn't already. What he does when he gets the ball in the paint is not a normal reaction. That's fear.

Brooklyn has to make a decision, do you gut and start over or fine tune the roster to help this team win? There is enough turmoil already with Kyrie so if we have to deal with Simmons mental issues, the Nets are gonna suffer another setback. This has been an abysmal two years to say the least.
