Yeah, there's a Miles Bridges sized hole.

McDaniels has been excellent thus far. I wonder what kind of contract offer(s) will come his way?

Rozier + Oubre + Plumlee for Westbrook + 2026 LAL 1st + 2025 LAL 2nd

Tell Westbrook to stay home and load manage Hayward. Tank out the season.

2023/2024
LaMelo/DSJ
Martin/Maledon/Bouk
Hayward/McDaniels
PJ/Miles/Thor
Richards/Williams/Kai

+ hopefully top 5 pick
+ Denver 1st
+ 3 2nds

Hayward will be an expiring next season (and Batum stretch off the books) which will really help their cap situation with PJ and LaMelo extensions looming. Miles likely will be significantly cheaper and could be a trade asset. They'd also have a highly valuable trade chip with the Lakers unprotected 2026 1st if they want to make a push, or just keep if they are good enough to be more patient.

Westbrook has been really good off the bench, leading 2nd unit. If he embraces that role, the Lakers won't trade him with assets

Bleacher Report proposal with Miami

OUT:
Terry Rozier
Kelly Oubre Jr.

IN:
Kyle Lowry
Nikola Jovic
Omer Yurtseven
2023 1RP (Top 7 protected)

I'd pull the trigger on this tbh. Lowry's an expiring next season and could be a culture vet for the team, Jovic's got potential, and another 1st round pick for this draft would kick ass.

I'd want like a 2026 or 2027 1st from Miami over a current one

In this draft, We will have our own, Denver's 1st in the early 20s, and Utah's 2nd somewhere in the 30s, as well as a very late 2nd.

Depends on your view of Jovic I guess, but this wouldn't be a terrible return for Terry. Prefer one better piece rather than 3 late 1st/early 2nd value pieces.

I think we're getting close to the point where we should consider thinking long term and appease Melo by getting Lonzo. Lol.

Lonzo's left knee is highly suspect. I'd rather look at other players in Melo's circle.

Ball Bro’s thing aside, his game would fit so perfectly on this roster. It’s that damn knee and PTSD from Sean May that has me hard passing this right now. Although if we are tanking anyway and his long term outlook is fine, then perhaps it’s still worth the risk.

Lonzo knee maybe shot, they say he is struggling to climb stairs

Minnesota is entering desperate territory. Seems like a good fit for Rozier. D'Lo and the 2023 NYK 2nd we traded last draft, for Rozier and Plumlee, and we get out of Terry's contract.

Let's see how desperate the Lakers are for a shooter as we approach the trade deadline first. Terry's contract isn't too bad if we aren't getting picks for him.

I don't see anything wrong with Roziers contract.

...but if we are to tank, getting Lonzo would appease the public for this season since we'd be giving away a decent piece (Rozier, PJ, Hayward, idk I haven't looked at Lonzo's deal). More importantly, it would appease LaMelo. Show him that the keys to the franchise are his, and that the organization will highly value him. In theory, if Lonzo's able to get healthy eventually, they're a great backcourt pairing on paper as well. But this recent string of bad looks for the Hornets could definitely be the catalyst for LaMelo wanting out. I pray it won't be.

yeahhhh I don't know how comfortable I am trading an asset for a broken dude just to make Melo happy...

I feel like he'd be happier with winning (lol)

This team is so screwed up I’m not sure there is any healthy move to make for LaMelo’s secured happiness. Sure, trading pieces for a star to place beside him would help, but our box of misfit toys isn’t good enough.

No to Lonzo. That secures you nothing. LaMelo wants to ball with a big market glitzy franchise. I’m convinced our future move will be to trade him for maximum returns and restart. Sadly this front office is nothing like Bob Bass, who turned every sour lemon situation placed on him by the owner or circumstances into lemonade.
I continue to wait...and hope...for the return to Hornet's glory.

I've never gotten where the "Melo's gonna bail at the first chance he gets" comes from.

Bro legitimately enjoys living in Charlotte, he spent all summer chilling here & training. And he's not dumb, he knows by the end of his 2nd contract he'll be the Hornets GOAT. Being able to call yourself the greatest for one of 32 NBA teams is nothing to sniff at, it's why Dame reminds reporters every 3 mins he's never leaving Portland.

The second free agency starts this summer he's gonna sign a max extension with us. The real worry comes from if we haven't won a playoff series by the end of his 2nd year on his extension. So we've got a timeline of 4 years to put together a team that can at least make it out the 1st round.

(And we'll most likely have a new coach & front office after this season so that could come sooner than we think)

We should have done the Hawks deal for Murray. Dude is a baller and would have worked so well with LaMelo because he plays defense.

I would have agreed with you before the season, but there's literally no reason to keep him on his long contract for a rebuild, especially if the fit next to your star player is questionable. I think our roster is that bad.
