Who should be our next coach?

Post#1 » by davey_wavy » Thu Nov 10, 2022 1:41 am

Assuming Mosley gets canned after this year for going above & beyond his tanking requirements, who would you bring in to start developing our main 3? Maybe win some games as well? Maybe attract some FAs? You got anyone in mind? Players coach? X&Os coach? 1st time coach? Vet coach? Yes man coach? Tank 3.0 coach?

Can't be worse than the Nets going with Jacque Vaughn!

Mosely is not getting canned this summer. The front office made ZERO moves during the offseason to bring in talent damn well knowing that this roster was good enough to win the lottery. This is all part of the plan. Relax.

I'd like to see him grow with this team tbh.

Quin Snyder would be the obvious choice, but I suspect he'll have better options than Orlando.

I'd take Kenny Atkinson certainly.

I don't think they necessarily have to hire an experienced coach, but if the idea is to win next season, it wouldn't surprise me if that's the route they went.

I agree.

I think they're gonna give Mosley next season, but it will be his last season if there's not tangible improvement.

I don’t necessarily think Mosely gets fired. He’s raising a team with a lot of fight in them. But, for the sake of argument let’s say the franchise takes a similar path as the ‘06 Magic, replacing Johnny Davis with Brian Hill, a coach who prepped that team to win. I honestly would have named Steve Clifford first and foremost. But since he’s not available I’d honestly think a guy like Kenny Adkinson would be perfect. He had a similar young team in Brooklyn that was getting quite good before the big wigs gave up on it. I think he could be the right guy to lead this team should it come to it.
You look confused...let me fill you in.

Kenny Atkinson will likely coach next season.

I like Mose. I can be nitpicky but I think this team is punching up with injuries and youth.

Seriously? You make this thread after a win?

They’d be my top 2 candidates. We might miss the boat on them if we give Mosley another season with an actual agenda to win.

Will Hardy is doing exceptionally well with Utah - is he from Quinn’s former ACs? Not thinking he’d be a target, just curious if Quinn’s impact extends beyond players and to his assistants.

Im not sure what you want from Mosley. Hes doing exactly what hes being asked to do, which is prioritise youth development over wins. Paolo is looking like a star, Franz is playing great, Bol has developed into a starter out of nowhere, Suggs is showing signs of life. And to be honest, this is the only criteria he should be marked on.

From my perspective, Jamahl has been exactly the right coach for this team at this point in our development.

I am more willing to see how winning helps the player development. Without Banchero tonight, nobody expected us to win, but we did. Franz played great and we are winning. To me, you have to win here and there for player development. We need to learn how to close out games and finish. Before this game, we weren't doing that.

Things like winning & development aren't mutually exclusive.

Memphis & Blazers are , on paper, less than 1 year older than Spurs, OKC, Magic & Houston.

Some youngest nba teams in history ( Hawks 2005-06 team ) and Suns ( 2016-17 youngest starting 5 ever) also showed that it ment nothing. Once they turned the corner, vast majority of players who "made history" weren't even in nba any more.
It's gimmicky and used as excuse to yap how they are "young and developing".

Bulls second 3peat was made on backs of 6 starters ( pippen injury took him out for half of season), and their average age was 32. Jordan was 34, Rodman 36.

Real life isn't nba 2K 18 when you get extra developmental points for having rookie in all nba rookie team.

it's not hard to track down Okeke, RJ, Cole, Hampton, Bamba, Fultz first games for Orlando and current games to figure majority of them showed latheral improvments at best. No development at all. Opposite of some Anferee Simons, who averaged 3,8 ppg as a rookie and 5 years later averages 23 ppg on winning team. That's development.
Desmond Bane from 8 ppg and 30th pick to probably top 5 SG in nba is development.

Mosley should not be fired yet tho. i would keep him for rest of a year and see how FA plays out. if they can't add anybody that helps you win, might as well keep him for next year , at least start.

I vote "Mosley".

His job is to turn players in to a team. Let him do that.

I like Mose but he’s a “defense” coach and our defense isn’t good. Our offense is awful, but can’t be sure if that’s a result of (NO shooting in 2022?) personnel. I would a roster of young, hungry, athletic (looong) kids could at least be able to excel defensively. Last night, they did a great job of harassing Luka with a lot of looks…and that’s a player Mose is very familiar with.

For the sake of this thread …I’m a BIG fan of Snyder and would break the unfair news to Mosely myself for Quin Snyder.

But I dont see Mosely not getting another year unless we show very little growth. We’re rarely losing badly and the roster is depleted & unbalanced. I really hope we make some trades when our chips get healthy…so we can see what Mose can do with a real team and determine how much of the offensive dysfunction is on him.
