Ironically after two season of the Jokic vs. Embiid debate, with Harden's injury we get to see Embiid attempting to carry the Sixers the way Jokic had to carry the Nuggets

Embiid has better running mates but not by much

League is tough and stacked even for a superstar..not so easy winning almost 50 gamed on ur own, ha?

With Embiid failing to do so, I hope folks who didn't apprreciate the totally bonkers back to back seasons the Joker played - can now appreciate those sessons more

It shows no love to Damian Lillard tho?

29/5/5 on 48/40/87% shooting splits, and in the games that he played the full game, they're 6-0 (He got injured in the Heat game they lost).

Hasn't played enough games though TBH. Even as a Blazer fan... if the Blazers are going to play like they are right now the rest of this year and Dame can stay on the court and play as he has been, he's for sure a front runner.

I've been loving watching the Blazers games this year. I really think they're pretty underrated - took them to win the division before the season started.

I don't know about making it out of the West, but IMO they could finish top 3 in regular season. Simons & Lillard both can catch fire and drop 12-15 points in a matter of a couple minutes.

Think Tatum has a solid shot at it this year.

Jokic will probably be a top 3 MVP finisher his entire prime for his health alone which is assisted by his play style compared to all the other players. All the wings or guards are so athletic and use so much athleticism due to today's pace that its guaranteed at minimum they'll miss more than a couple games a year. And Embiid always misses close to 15 games minimum every year and it wouldn't surprise me if Giannis starts to get load managed more and more cause of his knee issues and the fact of how much energy his play style involves.

Jokic's body and lack of athleticism is actually a benefit in this era. He's yet to play less than 70 games in his career and is probably one of the few new young stars to play 80

(I pulled some wrong stats first time I tried to respond, trying this again.)

His relatively low usage for a superstar wing will probably make it an uphill climb because he has to maintain a superhuman efficiency to keep putting up the sorts of raw stats he's putting up now for a full season, so I don't think he's the most likely, but he definitely checks off a lot of boxes for an MVP candidate and could be a contender if he continues to play like this, stays healthy, and leads the Celtics to a top 2 seed.

As long as he stays healthy i can't see him being anything below a top 4 candidate.

Agreed, I think it would take a very weird circumstance for that not to be the case (e.g. Celtics having a really unexpectedly bad season)

I think I might change my vote to Jokic. I know he'll have to overcome the odds to win 3 in a row but statistically he might just have the best case. Luka's stats and team record took a hit over his last 2 games, while Giannis is falling behind in cumulative stats due to missed games. Meanwhile Jokic is 4th in PER and BPM, 3rd in VORP, 2nd in WS and 1st in WS/48, RAPTOR and RAPTOR WAR, while the Nuggets are sitting at a strong 8-3 record. Tonight's game against the Celtics might be a make or break moment whether Jokic can get some momentum going in the MVP discussion.

As much as people say that it's all about regular season, I think that Jokic is going to get the same 'monkey on his back' that Giannis had, where he was considered just a RS guy because he hadn't progressed to the Finals at least. I feel like the Nuggets would have to finish as the one seed, or Jokic won't pick up another MVP until the Nuggets really make waves in the playoffs.

Yeah it's highly unlikely Jokic will get enough support but I like approaching this thread with the idea who I think deserves the award and not who I'll think will win. I'd be surprised if anyone but Giannis and Luka get serious MVP hype.

I'd be surprised if Giannis played much more than 60 games this season tbh.

And no chance of Luka winning if Dallas don't finish near the top.
So Giannis wins if he plays enough games, otherwise Paul George if Clippers finish high enough.

Yeah it might be Steph lol. Tatum and giannis (and Luka) not that far behind though but curry is putting up 2016 stats. It’s gonna be a marathon; who can sustain the longest which is probably giannis but he might just play a lot less so hard to tell.

Why not? He's 27 years old, he has no reason to load manage more than 10-12 games a season.
