Kai is the only player to not get minutes in the first half. 2 years away from being 2 years away

Maledon is 21. I love the way he runs the floor. He is a great backup PG prospect.

Not sure what we offered PJ, but he should've taken it.

Honestly don't think Lamelo is as good as people on here think he is. Thought that for a while now.

It's insane how important Hayward is to this team.

LaMelo might be a player that needs and allstar level teamate, *miles*, and a coach who just lets him come down and do whatever he pleases JB. Anything else and he might be a subpar player.

Leave Mark in the G league for 6 more weeks then bring him up to get 20 plus minutes a night. We just do not have the talent with no Miles or Hayward to realistically do anything unless someone goes scorched earth on a given night.

Besides randomly beating GS, we've gone 1-10 in our last 11. Next game is Orlando.

I don't think we should consider trading Melo unless he has an awful year. We need to keep at least one allstar on this team. Only players we should NEVER trade are Cody and McDaniels.

Well that 1st half was fun enough to watch.

2nd half was a whole bucket of suck.

Swarm game tomorrow where I'll watch Mark dominate the paint and Bryce look like a prime Paul Pierce. Not all is lost.

It's his first game this season. Give him at least 10 games before we try to make conclusions.

I only caught the second half of the game but they looked completely outclassed the entire time. Not a single Hornet looked like they were doing anything good while Miami's bench scrubs were just raining threes and running a great offense to get guys open.

Our offense looks B-A-D. Even with Melo and Terry out there, just... bad

I like how the team is in last place and yet somehow can't find a single meaningful minute for their prize rookie who they have stuck in the g-league putting up Shaq numbers while Plumlee plays 30mpg in blowouts. The Clifford experience never gets old.

I should have been more clear as I definitely wasn't trying to trash him. I see post how we should try to make him happy, do this do that, and I just don't think he's that caliber of player. Do I think he is a very good player? Absolutely

I agree. It wasn't a stellar debut but at the same time if those threes that were halfway down go in his percentages look worlds better.

What concerned me most was he still looks like a turnstile on defense, that's the part of his game I hope Cliff can develop and hold him accountable for. I understand that not being totally locked in on game 1 though, so I'll reserve judgment for the time being.

It's possible Melo has to be like Nash and play high tempo while not even bothering with defense to unlock his best self. If that turns out to be the case we were fools for not hiring Dantoni. I don't think we can make any firm conclusions on that at the moment.

All that said, I get where LP is coming from, at some point the hype has to translate to lifting the team's fortunes.

You got a totally raw deal, second half was a train wreck. If you'd only watched the first you would've wondered wtf happened when you saw the final score.

That stuck out to me as the biggest takeaway for him too, but I also agree that it's tough to make too big a deal in his first game back.

I firmly believe team character is built by coaching direction but made REAL by player leadership. The Hornets lack player leadership. Rozier tried to take the reins in the off-season but he isn’t that guy. Hayward has influence but not a strong leader. Personality and character develops leadership. It’s not something you read a book on and become one.

LaMelo strikes me as a very happy go lucky personality, who wants to have fun and ball out in a way that glorifies his ambitions. Not a bad teammate, but not a leader. A fine talent who needs a strong team leader(s) to push him and others toward doing the dirty work, the tough work, that leads to winning.
I continue to wait...and hope...for the return to Hornet's glory.

Agree with those talking about Melos defense...
If the only thing cliff does the season is teach lamelo how to be a competent man and Team Defender, it will be a win. I'm not holding my breath though. Watching lamelo just randomly run around and wave his arms and foul people is getting old considering it's his third season. He can't take the next step to become a top 20 franchise building type player if he continues to be so bad defensively.

The other thing I hope to see is that Improvement we heard about in terms of drawing fouls and getting to the free throw line.

Without those two needed improvements to his game, I fear lamelos ceiling as a franchise level talent could be lowered.
