Re: 99 Problems: The PJ Washington Jr. Thread
PJ isn't a top 80 player to warrant 20 million a year he will ask for. In all these media publications, the Hornets only have 1 top 100 player, which is really sad. Will we really win so much less if we replaced him with McDaniels? I think some playoff team will be desperate that come trade deadline we can get a good asset or two for him
This is where you freaking keep the 13th pick and take Eason/Duren/Griffin/any of those available players and have a player in waiting instead of dishing out 80 mil to a player that might not be worth it

Re: 99 Problems: The PJ Washington Jr. Thread
If we were smart we would trade PJ and if we are lucky we can get 2 lottery protected first rounders or a 1st and 2nd for him. I think McDaniels is at least good defensive wise. That's one thing he brings each and every night. Also not a bad passer.

Let somebody else give him 20mm a year - or even 15. I've never quite seen the charm with PJ. There are countless guys that could give us PJ performance for pennies on the dollar. Max Strus makes 1.7mm. Shoot - gimme Torrey Craig at 5mm (who's shooting nearly 40% from 3 to PJ's 33%). There's no future in occasional PJ - I'd be hard dangling him as trade bait along with defenseless Terry.

Re: 99 Problems: The PJ Washington Jr. Thread
Lol... I'm probably a bigger PJ fan than most, and I really wanted us to get an extension done. However, I would never go near paying him $20 million a year based off what he has shown us.
He's a solid Defender who can cover anywhere from 3 thru 5, but not a game changer. A stretch power forward shooting 33% from three point line. And abysmal rebounder for his position. And hasn't really added much to his game in terms of off the bounce or shot creation for others. He works well in certain matchups where he can punish smaller players in the post, but that's not a night and Night Out reliable option.

Re: 99 Problems: The PJ Washington Jr. Thread
Yeah, the pricetag is crazy. I was in favor of making a reasonable offer and the Hornets did not lowball him (unlike Bridges, even though after thought it was a blessing in desguise, but that's another story)
The questions i have are : Will it affect his trade value as the franchise that might have been interested knows he wont be that cheap, and secondary, can a S&T be organized to move him in the offseason (my target would be Ayton). The question being, would the suns bite.
I'd think the suns could be interested in Turner who might be a little cheaper. If something could be done to land Ayton here (just before the deadline in february) for Turner/PJ + maybe Booknight for indy + filler (you see the framework), it could help this team to bounce back quite fast and just before the draft.
Knowing if Hornets are lucky and land Victor, you can decide what to do (i know i would trade him but i am biased, i dont trust the development staff here), they could probably get a godly offer to fill the roster nicely and efficiently (good contracts, good young prospects and some quality vet's on team friendly contracts).
Kupchak & co really need to be pro active and fix the roster while it can be done. Even though i think Booknight will figure it out. But he is a bad fit for Ball (and so is Rozier).

Yeah 20 million is ridiculous. I don't blame PJ or his agent though. They saw the Miles situation and figured he could capitalize on it. Unfortunately for us and him he hasn't.

Draft night trade with Detroit not looking real smart right now.

Re: 99 Problems: The PJ Washington Jr. Thread
PJ can be really useful, but he can't be paid 20m.
I can see PJ fit on all the top teams in the league as a 3&D player, either starting or off the bench. But that is more in the 10-15m range.

Yeah I'd rather trade him before the deadline for a late first or two decent seconds than pay him $20 million per year for four years.

That trade was outright STUPID, regardless of the Miles situation. Trading a lottery pick for a near certain 20-something pick the following year is nuts. Trading it and some other assets for a veteran performer is smart (if the right player) but that didn’t happen.
Mitch and company are bad managers, bad strategists, just a big disappointment for this franchise to be limping around at this point.
And PJ….trade him. He is limited upside from here at far too much $$ risk.
I continue to wait...and hope...for the return to Hornet's glory.

I'm definitely not saying it was a good trade, but worth reminding that we also got 4 2nds. Tough to really value what 4 2nds is worth though.

We already used one of them to move up 5 spots for McGowens.
Drafting a steal with the Utah 2nd (which isn't looking too hot either) are 2024 NY 2nd are likely the only chances to make this trade look salvageable. The other 2nd is the latest of WAS/DAL/MIA. That'll be in the 50s, which is essentially nothing.
investigate Adam Silver

Re: 99 Problems: The PJ Washington Jr. Thread
I think PJ is pretty good and would be fine with signing him for 12-15 mil per year. Thats basically what solid starters at his age cost. If he was a little older hed be a little cheaper (think Martin's contract).
Whether or not to trade him is a lot more interesting if hes seeking 20 mil. I think he'll have plenty of interest around the league, but I honestly think he would have to play about as well as he possibly could to get a 20 mil per year from another team, at which point they probably wouldn't mind matching. I think in that scenario they'd really need to get rid of Rozier's contract. I'd rather keep PJ long term than Rozier tbh.

Interesting to see what they can get, I just don’t have enough faith in Washington to pay him bulk cash.

Advanced stats on PJ this year are rough. Not exactly doing wonders for his trade value.
