Re: How would you fix the defense?
How about just playing the players who play defense more and the ones that are turnstiles on defense less?
Players who defend
Grimes, IQ, Cam, Mitch, Deuce
Players who dont
Fournier, Randle, RJ, Brunson, Hartenstein

But, since this FO is paying this sack of **** 9 figures, the coach is the first to go.
basically comes down to get better players

RJ plays defense. Brunson is the PG. It's more about Evan/Randle getting more minutes than they deserve and no accountability. Obi gives effort on defense and seeing him get less minutes than Evan(and everyone else) is an absolute joke at this point.
Losing Mitch exposes the defense even more but, they had issues with him as well. Mainly the perimeter. So if guys can't defend the 3 then they can't be given free reign out there. Evan and Randle are the worst.

And when the team gets beat 100-70 instead of 140-110 then what?

Grimes defense is like Frank Ntilikina's defense. Just because you're better than the majority of your teammates cause they suck at it doesn't mean that they're suddenly strong defenders.

But you can use that same argument when talking about Randle or RJ as well. If everyone else played well defensively then you can live with Randle (see 2020-2021), for example.

That’s ok RJ Barrett is not a good defender, I think folks can admit it. He’s a below average wing defender on account of him being consistently a tick late reacting to his man and his lack of elite foot speed to make up for when that happens . Folks that haven’t already picked sides would know that lol. The Knicks “Big 3” are all not good defensively. And none of the 3 being what I would call elite offensively makes it even worse. Trying and failing vs not trying at all (the arguments people try to use to defend one and blast the other)? At the end of the day it’s the same result so what does it matter.
yeah. if brunson tries more but he's still the worst defender on the team it's still meaningless to the outcome.
Dallas Mavericks had a top 5 defense with Brunson and Luka starting. Being poor individual defenders who actually try and execute goes a long way.
Not when you don't have good (smart, experienced, talented) individual defenders at the other positions you don't. And there's also a positive impact of having an MVP caliber player on your roster beyond what they do statistically themselves. It makes everyone else's responsibility for wins less and allows them to not always been playing on their heels. 3 out of the starting 5 players on the Knicks and half their bench rotation are subpar defenders. Their no.1 option ("most talented guy on offense") is still Julius Randle.

Bet Thibs had a great time watching this game 3-4 times.
I will never understand why he's so passive and soft with Randle.

Cause Randle is his best player. And no that's not a compliment to Randle. Thibs leans on his best offensive player to offset his own lack of a high end offensive system. It's been that way everywhere he's been. So Randle is his proverbial offensive "cash cow". At the end of the day, this team doesn't have the type of talent that can make Thibs system work real well. They don't have an MVP Rose like no.1 option that can score regardless. They don't have a pack of skilled defensive hounds to surround that no.1 option with. That's why it was (and still is if they plan on continuing down this path) so important for them to find that true no.1. Then you can start shedding (trading) the lesser guys that they have to run out there and share no.1 options with for guys that are more defensive hound dogs. Right now the Knicks cannot afford to not play Randle, RJ and Brunson cause they don't have a bonafide alternative which in turn locks them into being subpar defensively most of the time. Which ends up being "who's on first, what's on second...third base". Why an inexperienced front office is their ultimate problem which in this case doesn't know how to pair the right coach with the right players in the right system because they either don't see it or can't make the moves to accomplish it.

Re: How would you fix the defense?
The Knicks' best defensive line-up would be:
Burks
IQ
Grimes
Cam
Mitch
Oh no I forgot they traded MJ and now they only have sieves as the first line of defense.

My point was that we no longer have good defensive personnel.

Knicks defense was so much better with Noel Bullocks Burks hiding RJ and Randle's horrible lazy defense.

Re: How would you fix the defense?
Probably the most embarrassing thing about Julius Randle is that if you take away the live audience, he actually might just be one of the best 20 hoopers on earth.
But apparently put his wife, child, and 18000 people in the stands and he isn’t even top 100. He becomes an active liability based on nothing, apparently, but his own mental inability to perform while being watched by others.
Somewhat Simmons and Kyrie-like because he’d be among the very best of the best if he just weren’t such an as$hole.

Randle couldn't even perform in front of this guy
