Price: Gary Harris likely to play Friday, Wendell Carter also probable

Post#1 » by Knightro » Thu Nov 17, 2022 6:34 pm

Orlando Magic guard Gary Harris could make his season debut in Friday’s road game vs. the Chicago Bulls at the United Center (8 p.m., Bally Sports Florida/Bally Sports+/FM 96.9 The Game).

Harris was upgraded to probable on the team’s Thursday injury report after being sidelined for the season’s start, missing the first 15 games because of left knee injury recovery.

He had arthroscopic surgery on his left knee in late August after tearing his meniscus, forcing him to miss training camp.

Harris told the Orlando Sentinel last Friday he was “getting close” to returning to the floor but wasn’t sure when it’d happen.

Can't believe I'm saying this...I hope WCJ is fully recovered before he jumps in...I was at the game and the lack of muscle inside was glaring. Once KAT recognized the opportunity, he drove to the rim at will. Bol and Bamba's long arms are cute, but poor Chuma was matched up with Gobert most often...Making KAT look like a bruiser at the rim takes work.

Sure we wait until we have four other new guys out before bringing someone back? Hate to say it but it sounds like tanking.

This trade wasn't some conspiracy - it was just a GM wanting AD bad enough where in most people's eyes he overpaid by a long shot to get him.

Yay one maybe 2 back is a start. Hopefully before New Year's we'll have everyone back. I wasn't expecting much from this season but was hoping to be entertained every once and a while and so far every game has been good even yesterday's blow out when the cut it down to 8.

Hopefully this will lead to less Bamba. One more guard = one less reason to have a giant lineup out there at all times.

I really hope Gary comes back strong...I think he's been really undervalued by Magic fans. He's not old and he's completely under team control for a great contract. Given the opportunity, he checks a lot of boxes for this (or any) team as a heady 3&D Guard. He's casually thrown into trades as filler when he's probably a better fit than half of the trade targets...I've been Ross' biggest defender but I'd be a lot more inclined to include him and/or Bamba (plus a handful of the other guys) in packages than Harris. Unless we're talking about a BIG, more long-term get like Poole, etc...make sure you do the math on how much better the incoming player really is vs Gary Harris. My favorite thing about Harris is that he's a proven shooter (not one who 'projects' to be a shooter someday-maybe). The day Harris becomes our second best SG is a great day for Magic fans...I'd love a Mike Conley/Gary Harris backcourt for a year or two, with Fultz & Suggs playing significant minutes and proving they're NBA players. There's minutes for Cole too, because at least one of the above will be out...Invest in the frontcourt we have by solidifying the backcourt...then shoot high for backcourt improvements via draft and trade.

his biggest problem though has been health. Does anyone really think he will finish the season healthy?

Garry Harris waste really good at the second half of last season, I hope he can come back to form quickly.

Two underrated aspects of Harris coming back as a starter are hopefully no more Kevon minutes and Franz starting at his natural position.

If that's your criteria, dump the whole team

those are different arguments. I agree he is not old, i agree he checks a lot of boxes, that he is a 3&D player, that he is undervalued, that he is a proven (not great, but proven) shooter. im just saying, he is another that just cant stay healthy.

and i said on another thread, the team needs to fire/replace our entire medical staff and trainers. i dont have the stats, but we have to lead the league in injured players missing games and it seems every year our first round draft picks miss major time due to injury

Yeah I'm all about trading him, even though he's been on our team a few years now i have no clue who he is as a player since he's always just sitting in a chair with street clothes. I'm sure he's a good player but injuries have been a issue as has been with half our team.

If Harris can go from injured to ready to play just like that with no updates in between then why in the hell can't fultz and Isaac when they've both said they're 100%?

He's had injury issues, but he's not always injured, far from it. He's already played 81 games for the Magic and he got here a year and a half ago. Last year he played 61 games and he was healthy enough to play 7-8 more, he was held back at the end of the season because we were tanking hard. The season before he played 20 games after he got here at the trade deadline and missed only 8.

He played pretty good tonight in his first game back. Looked real comfortable on the court, had nice defense and some long balls.

The Magic's day to day sure is different from other team's day to day.
Magic's day to day injury = 2 weeks.

Return to Orlando Magic
