yeah... as soon as i read it was a shin injury i was hoping it was just shin splints and not a stress fracture. shin splints are essentially small tears in the muscles around the tibia and a stress fracture is a crack in the bone itself, pretty much because the bone has taken too much force that the supporting muscles couldn't handle.

i honestly didn't know surgery was even an option for stress fractures, i thought it was just rest and strengthening the supporting muscles for rehab. there's no reason to rush cade back obviously so hopefully the team does what's best for him long-term.

Bummer it's this serious. I wish him a (full) and speedy recovery! This team's ceiling and Cade's ceiling as a player are pretty closely aligned, IMO.

Sucks for sure especially because you want him to be out there learning and developing this year not sitting on the sidelines. But we're likely without Cade, Bey, and Stewart for the next few weeks so its going to be a rough ride either way.

I'm all about using the next month to try and up trade value for guys like Bojan and Burks and then see what's available at the deadline. After that, lets start feeding Duren more looks the 2nd half of the season.

Don't know yet. They haven't decided on surgery or rest. If he gets surgery he's probably done for the season.

Either way it makes sense to go all-in on the tank. Without Cade there are less than zero expectations on this team.

Just based on replies here they are mentioning it is due to a stress reaction/ fracture as opposed to just shin splints.

A cursory look online says at the minimum it is 6 weeks on zero activity (running) for non-surgical healing; with it being realistc for it to go several months in some cases. There would be rehab after that as well.

I don't know if surgery would expedite this or not.

If I'm the pistons I am choosing the long pole of treatment timing to ensure he is maximally healed. There’s literally no gain to rushing him back early. We have nothing competition-wise at stake here.

Might not be the worst advice honestly. As far as technology and nutrition science has come a long way to let the body supplement without much red meat, it's still the most cost effective/efficient way to get proteins and other nutrients

Bone broths, animal gelatin/fats, etc there's so many ways to help the bone and tendons of the body

With the way the season has been going and potentially being winless or barely a few wins next month, Cade honestly has all the time in the world to recover should he opt or opt out of surgery either way
