Personally I don't have a problem with broadcasters who are being paid to report the cup being there and reporting it, as long as they make it clear that they disagree (if they do) with some of the Qatar positions. If the companies are paying the Qataris to be there then I don't agree with them only their employees.
As long as you get to see the matches then I don't see why it should worry you about them "slating" the hosts. It would be hypocrisy if they didn't make people aware of the situation. So the opening ceremony was on the red button - so you could watch it, couldn't you?
Football isn't more important than human rights and this world cup has been made into a human rights issue. I didn't watch and haven't read anything about the match yet - I will do, at some time. When I do I'll be thinking of those indentured workers and their mates who died building the stadiums for this competition.
I do understand the issues in Qatar and I’ve said on a few post that I don’t necessarily agree with their stance on a few things (I get that most of the law their is based of Islam and sharia law etc). However why would you not show the ceremony on terrestrial television? I know majority of people have digital TVs/devices etc but for the few that don’t, they should also have access to watch it. They showed the Russian one for example and that was also corrupt/Russia also have their issues?
I will also have the thoughts of those workers the same way I’ve done for any competition I was pretty vocal about the conditions for the workers in Brazil etc.
I just find it funny that the crew on BBC felt so strongly about it and Gary Neville did, but it’s not like they don’t have a choice to work there. They can still reject it and I’ll even respect them for completing boycotting it.
Maybe you are right. I'm only giving my views for people to think about. I certainly don't think that everything I say or everything I believe is right
