Re: General Blue Jays Thread, 2020
so basically we turned teoscars expiring into a high leverage reliever, an above average prospect and a solid, buy low, 2 year pact with bellinger (2 x 8 is being reported).
this is pretty darn good asset management.

Where is everyone seeing these Bellinger reports? I seem to find nothing from most of the major networks.

They've mostly been from unverified accounts on twitter.

I just checked his stats, what happened to him after his MVP year?

combination of recurring injuries (particularly his shoulder), regression and being scouted/figured out a bit. i can see why they'd be interested since you can play him in center and shift springer to right and it's a solid upside move if he turns it back around. but it's obviously a bit of a risk for a team that should have aspirations of contending. why bank on a lottery ticket? it's seemingly scrounging a bit when they should have the resources to aim a bit higher. they should be capitalising now while the kids aren't on big(er) contracts.
but i'll wait to judge things once the season rolls around.

Re: General Blue Jays Thread, 2020
Great if true. Now go get Nimmo. We really can’t count on Bellinger to have a breakout season and we KNOW Springer will get injured.
Nimmo Bellinger and Springer would be pretty incredible outfield defense.

No way this FO wants to sign Nimmo to a huge deal, right?

Re: General Blue Jays Thread, 2020
Why are we interested in Cody Bellinger, he just profiles of much of the same types we have, even if you think he rebounds. High strikeouts, doesn't get on base, low batting avg, low OBP.
He's had 3 pretty terrible seasons, after having 3 good starting seasons...
Far better like the profile of Nimmo, even though not sure if we should be spending 5/110 on him, atleast he's profile we don't have, higher OBP, contact, walks, etc.

MLB 2022-23 free agency - Predictions on Judge, deGrom, more - ESPN

Brandon Nimmo
McDaniel: Mets, five years, $125 million. I think Nimmo will be coming off the board sooner than later and the buzz is he's the Mets second priority after Edwin Diaz.
Doolittle: Mets, five years, $110 million. Starling Marte in center field is not the answer for the Mets and unless they can sway Judge to sign with them to play there, Nimmo is the best option.
Schoenfield: Toronto Blue Jays, six years, $135 million. There is a lot of interest in Nimmo, but the Teoscar Hernandez trade opens up the door for Nimmo to go to Canada. The Jays have said they want a little more balance in their lineup and the lefty-hitting Nimmo goes to center field and allows them to move George Springer to right.
Rogers: Blue Jays, five years, $120 million. Toronto absolutely needs to get more left-handed in its lineup and Nimmo is a perfect fit.
Lee: Mets, five years, $140 million. Nimmo is a fan favorite, he's well-liked in the clubhouse and there are few replacements for someone of his talent available in trades or free agency.
Olney: Blue Jays, six years, $142 million.
Gonzalez: Miami Marlins, five years, $120 million. The Marlins have the organizational starting pitching depth to contend. But they desperately need offense. Ideally it would come from a center fielder, particularly one who can defend in a spacious outfield and is not overly reliant on the home run. Nimmo is perfect for them. The question is whether they can elevate to a contender level. If ever there was a time under this regime, this is it.

knowing the Jays for who the Jays are when it comes to free agents, they see value. and they see something they can "fix" a player. and unlocking their potential.
he's also a low risk high reward type of FA. and he's also looking to rebound for a big contract. and the Jays play in a hitter friendly park.
again, on paper, if all we sign is Bellinger, disappointing for sure from the get go but i'm open to letting Bellinger show us why he was the MVP as well lol

5 years at 120 - 6 year at 140? Hmmm i like his profile, but paying him 23 mill to 24 mill a year is pricey.

We had the fifth-lowest K rate in baseball last year, the highest batting average, and the third-highest OBP. The sort of player you are describing is very much not the sort of type we have!
We also happened to trade the guy with the biggest K-BB split on the team, so we're likely to trend even further away from being the team that people still, inexplicably, believe us to be.

**** your asterisk.

IS chapman on the team still, we have 3rd base version of Cody already. We don't need another guy who hits 20-30 hr, and does little less offensively. Yeah we got a rid of guy that basically profiles the same as Cody, so we don't need to replace him, with similar guy who hits even worse on avg.
