How do you upgrade this team?
So I've been kicking the tires on what it would take to try and consolidate some of our players into, well... better players, and I'm running into a bit of a wall. We seem to be in a weird purgatory (that might be a little strong as we're #1 in the west, after all) where our players are good enough that it's hard to find good upgrades for them without stepping into that 'star' status.
I also know that Danny likes to chase distressed assets, so I assume he'd go after players where the circumstances around them are depressing their value, or they have another level to unlock in the right situation.
I've come up with a few names that might be worth kicking the tires on, but overall, I'm struggling - is there someone you would attempt to add to this team?
A few names I've thought of that seem to fit a position of need, are locked up somewhat long term, are in Markkanen's time table and are potentially in the 'distressed asset' category because of either contract, chemistry or rotation issues:
Lonzo Ball - Injuries might have sapped his value, and the Bulls might run out of patience waiting for him.
Wisemen/Mooney/Kaminga - all three of the Warriors young trio have been struggling this season

Re: How do you upgrade this team?
Ok, so playing the "building" instead of "rebuilding" (tanking) game...
The Jazz are weak at the F/C spot, and I pretty much want Gay included in any deal made. However, I think the Jazz have to give up something for another team to take him (net-negative). I also think that Agbaji is the easiest "asset" the Jazz can use to sweeten the pot without hurting the current roster, even though I'm intrigued by him and would like to see what he can do once he gets his NBA legs under him.
Preface... I didn't put a ton of thought into "fit", just trying to find players who are an upgrade in depth, and hopefully can play quality minutes. I tried to at least slightly consider the other team.
UT gets: John Collins & Trent Forrest
ATL gets: THT, Gay, Agbaji, future 1st round pick
Trade rumors are rumbling about Collins, who I've always liked. Elite athlete, scoring ability, and upside still in the cards, IMO.
UT gets: Myles Turner (+ bench filler, like a 2-way player)
IND gets: THT, Gay, Agbaji, future 1st round pick
Trade rumors around Turner make me think he's available. Jazz could use that length. I like Olynyk's effort & floor stretching, but he fouls 7 times more than he blocks shots. Big guys eat him up.
UT gets: J. Wiseman
GS gets: Gay, Agbaji, future 1st round pick swap
... It seems to me that GS has no interest in developing Wiseman. He's too talented to not be better than he's shown, and a change of scenery would seem to do him a lot of good.
UT gets: J. Isaac, M. Wagner (+ bench filler, like a 2-way player)
ORL gets: Gay, NAW, Bolmaro, Azubuike
... this is a gamble where the Jazz give up nearly nothing and get back Isaac, who may be back from injury and of value soon, but also may never return to his old form and is then a 3 year, expensive bench warmer. Orlando has Bamba, Bol, F. Wagner, Carter Jr & Banchero, therefore no need for Isaac at all, and probably would like to just rid themselves of his 3 year $17m contract.
UT gets: C. Wood, F. Ntilikina
DAL gets: THT, Gay, Agbaji, future 1st round pick
Dallas needs to do something, as they currently sit 9th in the West, and Wood is reportedly not happy. I'll be honest, I don't think Dallas would do this, but I'm still throwing it out there.
UT gets: Z.Collins
SA gets: Gay & Azubuike
Just trying to help the Spurs tank with the Jazz's 2 least valuable "assets", while the Jazz get back a serviceable big, who can stretch the floor and also provide a little shot blocking help (1.2 bpg in 17mpg).

Wow Zero, for not putting much time unto this, it seems pretty well designed and mostly fair! I say mostly, bc I have not spent ANY time on it so to make a statement that these all work would be insincere at best. What intrigues me with all of your scenarios is keeping the current rotation (Gay needs to be moved) and still improving the team with all of these. I would be a little nervous about the ORL trade and shocked to see DAL make this trade, both for the reasons you present, but it could happen...

If i was uncle Danny and i should make trade with Orlando Bol Bol would be my main target.
Bol is 7'2 tall and very good shooter he also blocks shots and rebounds pair him with Lauri and lets see then what happens.
What i have read main board and MIP award thread Bol has also got mentions being dark horse for MIP award winner
so at least try get him to Utah but if it won't happen then try get someone-else like
like Wiseman or Porzingis or Collins from Atlanta.
Ntilikina was same draft with Lauri and he hasn't showed much in NBA.
But to me Ntilikina is no thank you as player.
If Jazz wants younger PG starter then try get Tyrese Haliburton from Indiana
or Killian Hayes from Detroit also one of Ball brothers ( Lonzo or Lamelo ) would be good PG for Jazz.
I truly cannot say more
because i really don't know the cap space etc situations what might be so much different around NBA.
So Ainge and Zanik should do those moves which are best for business and Jazz future.

Thanks. I admit, I just went to the Trade Machine, started looking at rosters and tried to think of who I've seen in the rumor mill as potentially available. Thing is, if the team is looking to compete & not tank, then you can't mess too much with the core. The way these guys are playing together is the key to their success, IMO. So yeah, I definitely want to look to improve without touching the main core of players. Agbaji is the casualty in most these ideas, but you have to give something to get something, and he's not a current rotation player.

I don't think Bol Bol is touchable at this point, without giving something more substantial. He's their new shiny toy (along with Banchero), much like Utah's is Lauri.
Ntilikina is a total throw-in for salary and end of bench guard depth in that idea. If that trade were to be made, I would expect NAW to play more, not Ntilikina. I do love Haliburton, but like Bol, I don't think the Jazz can get him without giving up more. I can't stomach a Ball brother in Utah, so I'm not touching that one. lol

If you look Ntilikina as a bench unit PG and Sexton's replacement then that might be good trade.
Yeah getting Bol Bol probably would cost more and then it means Lauri should be also in the block.
But how about Porzingis? yes his injury history is worrisome but limited minutes and coming of the bench he would be OK.
James Wiseman is also interesting name but is he available and what Warriors want for him in a trade.
If Ball brothers has one major problem it absolutely is their clown father who should be kicked to moon.
So seeing one of those guys in Jazz jersey probably turns red-flag for at least some Jazz fans.
If Jazz are looking big man who can replace Vanderbilt or Olynyk how about DeAndre Ayton?
Olynyk is OK player and so is Vanderbilt but those two take too much fouls and are almost always into foul troubles.
Kessler looks promising but what's his future potential he been mostly in bench unit which is natural for NBA rookie
but is Ainge and Zanik seeing him future piece or trade-bait for Jazz that's the question.
Here's my keepers
Markkanen
Kessler
Vanderbilt
Beasley
Clarkson
Fontecchio ( if he gets more playing time )
Available for trades
Conley
Sexton
Olynyk
Bolmaro
Agbaji
Azubuike
Horton-Tucker
Nickeil Alexander Walker
Gay.
Fontecchio ( if he doesn't get more playing time )
This is my list for keepers and trade-baits

I’d probably hold onto THT, Tony Jones has said multiple times the Jazz view him as a rookie.
Ingles is cooked.

I think Collins should be at the top of our list, undervalued and good length. He seems like a reclamation project that will pan out.

I'm not anti-Porzingis, I'm just not sure that Washington is a team looking to move him. I feel like they would be wanting to add talented vets, not lose one. He's also making $33m, meaning it would probably have to be something like Conley & Olynyk. I was also going to say he's a bit older, but then just saw he's only 27. Wow. lol Hachimura might be obtainable, but he doesn't quite have the size I think the Jazz need.
I think your keep list is reasonable, but I'm also firmly on board with keeping Conley, if the plan is to compete instead of tank. I think his leadership & experience is super important. I also think the Jazz will hold onto Sexton unless blown away with a deal. Not saying that's right or wrong, it's just my opinion.

Re: How do you upgrade this team?
I would like to see what can we get from Olynky, Gay and Fillers + least favour of 23 FRP
Turner should be decent target from this package, if he willing to sign around 100m/4yrs with the Jazz. I don’t know does the package is enough or not, but he will leave for free in summer. Get a FRP for Ind would be a nice return.

Olynyk is OK player and so is Vanderbilt but those two take too much fouls and are almost alays foul trouble.
Kessler looks promising but what's his future potential he been mostly in bench unit which is natural for NBA rookie
but is Ainge and Zanik seeing him future piece or trade-bait for Jazz that's the question.
Here's my keepers
Markkanen
Kessler
Vanderbilt
Beasley
Clarkson
Available for trades
Conley
Sexton
Olynyk
Bolmaro
Agbaji
Azubuike
Horton-Tucker
Nickeil Alexander Walker
Gay.
This is my list for keepers and trade-baits
What's your list?
Nobody hasn't said you're anti Porzingis so don't think that way.
If Conley really wants to stay in Utah and being a mentor for younger PG's and players then OK keep him.
But if he wants to win a championship ring before his retirement then Jazz should let him go and trade him to contending team.
Sexton is a bit mystery for me and what i have read Finnish basketball forum named koripallo.com
where's own threads for Utah Jazz rebuild and Lauri there is growing frustration on Sexton
and most of those posters wants Sexton out of team because he doesn't look like team player and
he doesn't pass and share ball enough and has tunnel vision too often.
Also Utah Jazz own discussion forum ( jazz fans.com )
has already trade thread ( made immediately after Clippers game ) opened for Sexton
and also there posters are getting pissed on Sexton.
Of course every NBA team needs veteran players because you can't built around just for younger players
I get that the process becoming playoff team in NBA takes time but if Jazz still is in playoff hunt
lets say somewhere late February and early March then absolutely Ainge needs to make some moves
and bring in 2-3 players with playoff experience and veteran leadership.
So far Jazz have played great unselfish team basketball so they should keep playing that way.
That's why Jazz new players needs to be team first type guys not big egos like Anthony Davis or Lebron etc
who wanna control everything and being the focal points etc types.
But where and how you find those type of players that's easier said than done.

Was that first time when Hardy yelled for Sexton or has that happened before once earlier ?

Good video, don't get to see that much frustration and admonishing from a coach, let's hope Sexton is listening and learning rather than making excuses and sticking with what got Hardy frustrated with him to begin with.It looked to me like he was making an attempt to pass, but just doesn't have the court vision or bbiq to see ahead of a play as it develops. Several awful turnovers in the paint or uncatchable passes.
I really like his motor and his energy, but not sure he is fitting in with the team first mentality this group must have in order o be successful, especially as a starter. Maybe his role is the igniter off the bench with his speed and bullish desire to get to the rim.

And what does John Collins have to do with Collin Sexton?
Ingles is cooked.

What is really bad in this video is that Sexton looks completely unimpressed by coach admonishing and just gives to Hardy his own ideas and intentions. I think he has to be benched and if not, team chemistry can get terrible hit,

Preach brother! I'm very unimpressed for his lack of listening skills. "See coach, it wasn't MY fault..."
This team needs mostly and badly another PG. In the long run probably a starter but Conley can not be traded unless you really want to tank.

I like the quote- it makes me chuckle. And it was/is pretty much true.

The FO must be already considering post-Conley -era, and another able pg on the roster for the 23-24 -season or sooner should be a priority. The other option would be tanking, which I would hate with a passion, and which would mean breaking up the current good thing in the hope of lucking into a better thing.
As of now, the 2nd "point guard" is, or should be, Talen Horton-Tucker. Sexton is a 6th man scoring guard and won't turn into a pg unless lightning hits him in the head and changes how he sees and processes the game.
From the basketball's perspective, travel is a nice pause from being pounded to the floor.

They'll get the #2 pick and draft Scoot. Problem solved.
