That guy ...
Who is that guy?
He is not talking about how good he feels ...
He is not talking about how hard he worked in the off-season ...
He is not talking about how hard he worked to get back out on the court ...
He is not wearing out his dress clothes during the season ...
He is not doing book tours ...
He is ... (you fill in the blank)
If you want to know a little of what "that guy" looks like, here is a link:

I don't see a "that guy" on the Magic yet (and they do not have to be MJ great to be "that guy").

I feel like Paolo has alot of "that guy" traits, at least in terms of his work ethic. Supposedly he got in a workout session the night before the draft. The kid lives and breathes work and basketball but our stupid front office is holding him out anyways.

This trade wasn't some conspiracy - it was just a GM wanting AD bad enough where in most people's eyes he overpaid by a long shot to get him.

Don't be that guy. Paolo has been one of the best rookies in a long time.

I don't care much if we miss out on another 'that guy' but we certainly need another high quality starting piece. Preferably a guard that can shoot. You can't win a championship with just 'that guy' you know.

And they want to tank even tho they know we tanked or tranded for FIVE other guys on our team who were supposed to be that guy, plus ONE more who at least might do it
#1 FULTZ - Not that guy
#5 SUGGS - Not that guy
#6 BAMBA - Not that guy
#6 ISAAC - Not that guy
#7 CARTER JR - Not that guy
#8 WAGNER - Not that guy at present
We have SEVEN top 8 picks on our team. And only one shows real potential to be a star.
So for a 15% chance to be successful this time - and somehow fit the new player on the team - fans are happy to throw away ANOTHER season.
There's no other sport in the world where the league gives you a better chance to stop sucking and yet Orlando needs 8 tries to achieve it? That's embarrassing.

You had me till you threw Wagner on that list. Dude is a 20/5/5 guy, in his second year. come on now.
and we got Fultz for nothing and Wagner and Carter, first round pick for a has-been Vooch.
And none of the media had Banchero going #1, (yes I made the thread calling on it months before hahaha), kid is already a star. I don't think I have ever seen a rookie come into the league playing as composed as him. Anyone who doesn't see it is not that bright. So they deserve credit for reaching another direction, or else we would have a player out the entire year or Jabari Smith sucking it up right now.

In a way doesn’t Franz’s development make tanking even more distasteful this season? If you’ve got that guy in Paolo, and Franz is on his way, why are you trying to lose? Tanking is not the only method of adding a quality starter. We have assets to trade, including draft picks. We have cap space. The best teams are built in different ways. Look at the Pacers as an example.

There's tanking and then there's not being ready to win. We're not ready to win. We have upgraded our talent and are forming a potential contender, but that doesn't mean we're ready to win. Same thing with the Pistons. Next season is the year to expect a jump and make the play-in if we stay healthy and continue to develop. We just started rebuilding a year and a half ago and hired a developmental coach for young players. We shouldn't expect a one-year turnaround, and I think it's pretty clear we ARE better this year. But that doesn't mean we're jumping from 20 to 40 wins.

Re: That guy ...
You have to have a team. Look at Curry and Durant this season. We're built to lose this season.
Next season will probably be an evaluation season after we try to start winning .

This is wildly ahistorical. If someone thought that any of these picks could be "that guy" (we didn't pick Fultz/Wendell so idk why they're there) that's on you for delusional homerism. I didn't expect any to be a #1 option.
Cmon now.

If you read much of of Grover (he has been doing this for 4 decades), he has said he has never seen a "that guy" who was over 6' 8".
Not my words but his.
Paolo might be a unicorn "that guy", but being "that guy" is not as much of a skill as it is a mentality.
Right now the closest person on the magic to being "that guy" is Suggs.
We will see, but that is just my opinion.

BTW, Grover has 2 excellent books: "Winning" and "Relentless"
He also has the resume to back up his words.

I just love how people make it seem like the "that guy" grows on trees and there are a ton of them in the league... which there aren't. Not everyone on that list has to be "that guy" either. we just need the one Batman.... maybe a nightwing and a handful of robins. lol
That i can see us having as Banchero and Wagner grow into their own as leads.... and everyone else fitting in.
people are grouchy because we've lost games recently... with a depleted team on a nightly basis. The emotional rollercoaster of the last near decade has definitely hindered the trust of many... and i get it. But.... if the organization has their plans and how they will handle injuries and bringing back players.... don't expect them to change it any time soon. instead of expecting them to change and fit ones idea.... change perspective and instead see where they are going with it.
I personally think they do want to have winning season.... but it's not going to look like how we may want. No use rushing back players when you might already have enough issues finding time for players if they were all healthy. Let players get bulk time now while the injured come back in the best shape possible... even if that means some **** losses. May be hard to believe... but i think they have the utmost confidence in what they can be when everyone is healthy. Unlike a tanking season... we roll the dice now and will push with more certainty towards the second half of the season or hopefully near future.
Just because people may discount the capabilities of returning players like fultz and isaac because they don't want to trust in their absenses... doesn't mean the magic braintrust doesn't project them to be integral parts of the team.

Not this year, but I really like what they’re building. Haliburton and Mathurin are going to be a force in the East.
