Kevin Durant just made an eye-opening statement about Kevin Huerter
Durant has taken notice of how well his namesake is playing in his first season with the Sacramento Kings.
"You gotta chase off Kevin Huerter. Kevin Heurter, right now, he's playing like Klay, Steph," Durant said in a video on Boardroom, the sports, tech and pop culture site he co-owns. "If you're not a basketball fan and locked in on the league, you gotta watch how Kevin Huerter is shooting this ball right now."
Praise doesn't get much higher than an all-time great comprising Huerter to two of the game's greatest shooters. Huerter, who was traded to Sacramento after three years with the Atlanta Hawks, is shooting a torrid 49.5 percent from three-point range, ranking seventh in the league, and he's doing it at high volume; his 7.4 attempts per game are more than anyone else in the top 10 in three-point percentage is attempting.
"The way he's coming off the handoff and shooting the basketball right now, if you're not a basketball fan and locked in on the league, you gotta watch how Kevin Huerter' shooting this ball right now. He's in the 50s and like, when you go through scout, you hear all these stats and everybody sounds way better than they are in scout," he said. "But Kevin Huerter's shooting seven threes a game, seven or eight, and they're all at 50 percent. When you hear that, and then you watch the clips and film and shots he shooting, it's just like, 'Oh ****, we're in for a long night."
Huerter, nicknamed "Red Velvet" for his hair color and soft shooting stroke, is averaging 16.6 points per game -- by far a career-high, helping the upstart Kings to a 10-6 start. Last October, Huerter and the Hawks agreed to a four-year, $65 million deal that seemingly would keep him in the Peach State for a while. But the team traded for all-star guard Dejounte Murray, diminishing his role, and then sent him to Sacramento.
