Very smart, and I'm happy to hear. If we can end up with a FRP and/or bird-rights to a player we may have been looking to re-sign this upcoming off-season, I think it's an option that you MUST explore.

Yep. It's clear that both Bojan and Bey can't play together and since Bojan is a more reliable scorer he is less prone to the real stinker games where he scores 8 points and is -22. So let Bey go to a team that can use his scoring and cover up his defensive shortcomings. Get that first rounder and take a hyperathletic wing who can actually guard someone.

Wait, the guy that was being hindered by Grant's ball hogging and was most certainly headed for a $25 million/year extension from us as of last year?

Probably worth a pick in the 15-20 range for the right team?

Would any of the developing players on THIS team be better off with Grant's style of play, this year?
Grant has been great this year! He's exactly the type of player that you'd want to grab AFTER you have established your young core's identity; kinda like what Portland has achieved THIS YEAR. Detroit might be in that position next year.
Grant was brought to Detroit to be THE man when he was signed. Two years later, after two top 5 picks, Grant would not be expected to fulfill the same role. That is one of the few reasons why he needed to be traded. The further growth of players like Bey, Stewart, and even Cade depended on Grant's departure.
The FO did Grant right, and did the team right. And let's not forget Detroit received:
• 2025 first-round draft pick (via Milwaukee)
• 2025 second-round draft pick
• 2026 second-round draft pick

Hey man--what would this place be without Hot Take Theater?

There were a number of people here, myself included, who didn't buy into the "Jerami Grant MUST be moved in order for this team to get better" philosophy. I didn't oppose the trade in any way because of the return, but I absolutely didn't agree with the idea that Grant couldn't or wouldn't change his game to be a good fit and help the young guys develop if the organization asked him to fill that role, and therefore absolutely had to go. And there were some games where it WAS a good fit, and all three of Cade, Bey and Grant had nice games.

As for the move, I'm more interested in trying to trade with New Orleans, who may be on the brink of being a really good team. Not for the pick, but for Herb Jones.
Package Bey, Bojan, and Burks for him. He would be absolutely ideal.

Re: Pistons taking calls on S Bey
Better to trade a guy than losing him for nothing. We have a lot of young guys we're going to have to pay. I hope we give Stew an extension. I wonder how much. But, I'd love for him to be our back-up Center for the rest of his career if possible. Duren/Stew is very appealing to me.
I'm also guessing Killian will either be cheap, but will not get an extension, but we'll pick up his option and see how he does next year before deciding. Bey started out as a 38% shooter from 3, and has gone down every year. But, I hope he can improve his shot. It's on him -- he's getting many open shots, but usually turns them down.

Re: Pistons taking calls on S Bey
You completely missed my point. Every bad game from Bey was blamed on Grant's presence when if you actually paid attention to the numbers Bey didn't have some massive explosion when Grant was out.TPA wrote:DetroitSho wrote:Wait, the guy that was being hindered by Grant's ball hogging and was most certainly headed for a $25 million/year extension from us as of last year?

It was almost like Bey was incapable of hitting the same open shots when Grant was in the arena wearing a uniform and not in street clothes. And...........it was Grant's fault. Well that's clearly proving itself to not be true.

Re: Pistons taking calls on S Bey
Well it's looking we need perimeter shooting and/or defense around Cade and Ivey and he's not providing either right now. I think at least the shooting could improve, however I don't hold out much hope on the defensive end. He's also proved to be a ball stopper this season.
I wonder if the Cavs would give us Okoro, who they've been pretty down on this season, and a pick. Okoro's shooting isn't up to par at this stage, but he's a competitor, can defend at a high level and displays good bball IQ.

Re: Pistons taking calls on S Bey
They should be taking call on everyone but taking them now at probably one of his lower points doesn't make it seem like they're very serious. I would rather keep him and low ball him than trade him for scraps.
Looking back seems like we're losing that Kennard trade hope he gets back to the basics and improves his shooting and defense.

Re: Pistons taking calls on S Bey
I'd need to see what the offers actually look like before commenting on whether we should actually move the guy, but yeah, Bey shouldn't be viewed as untouchable. We've got a decision to make about whether to give him a payday- totally valid to look at his viability with the rest of the core.

Re: Pistons taking calls on S Bey
I think its a good idea.
Noone should be considered safe on a 4-50 team or whatever we could call this current iteration of what used to be known as the Pistons.
Im not shopping Ivey, Cade or Duren yet. But most of the rest, yeah im listening to ideas.

Re: Pistons taking calls on S Bey
Cade, Ivey, Duren are keepers, and Stew as well as long as we can extend him for a reasonable price. Bey is sort of in the same category, but I’m sure Bey will be asking for a lot more $.
