Kings vs Hawks -- The Return of Red Velvet

Kevin Huerter makes return to Atlanta as Kings face Hawks

The surging Sacramento Kings put their seven-game winning streak on the line when they make their only visit to play the Atlanta Hawks on Wednesday.

Sacramento extended its streak, its longest since November 2004, with a 113-109 win over the Memphis Grizzlies on Tuesday. The Hawks are coming off a 114-102 loss at Cleveland on Monday.

The Hawks swept the two-game series with Sacramento last season. The Hawks have won the last two games against the Kings in Atlanta.

The game will mark the return of former Hawk Kevin Huerter, a popular player who spent four seasons with Atlanta after being the 19th overall pick in the 2018 NBA Draft. Huerter averaged 11.4 points during his tenure with the Hawks, where he established his reputation for 3-point shooting prowess. He was traded to the Kings in July for Maurice Harkless, Justin Holiday and a first-round pick.

“I feel like my first couple years, there weren’t guys who really knew my game,” Huerter said. “They probably saw me as a guy who stands in the corner and shoots. I think I’m a guy who can get into the paint, make plays and obviously distribute and make plays for other guys, too.”

The Hawks have missed Huerter’s 3-point touch. Atlanta was second in the league last season with 37.4 percent, but rank 27th in 3-point percentage (32.0). Even Trae Young’s perimeter numbers are down; he’s shooting 30.4 percent on 3’s and Monday made just 1-for-7.

Code: Select all

Going into Tuesday’s game, the Kings were No. 1 in the NBA in scoring (121.4 ppg) and No. 6 in point differential (+3.9). They were averaging more points than any team since the 1983-84 Denver Nuggets. The Kings have scored 120 points or more in six consecutive games for just the seventh time in franchise history and the first time since February 1970. “They’re one of the top offensive teams in the league,” Pistons coach Dwane Casey said. “I mean, Mike has done a heck of a job creating the offense. He then went out and got Huerter. He’s a big-time 3-point shooter, one of the best in the league.”

Hawks are going to have a good portion of Red Velvet before the meal on Thursday.
Where the offseason has more buzz happens.

Really need a win here. Sac aren't as good as their recent play. Hawks need to smack them back into their place.

Please let Trae and DM step up their play to their All-Star level and JC grab more than 1 board

Yes, they need a win, it's early and tight, but just like that Atl dropped to the 6th seed.

18,173 in attendance. I haven't looked at our attendance numbers much lately.

:D

Great! I wanted Red Velvet to have a good game. He did. I wanted the game to be pretty close. It was.
Most of all, I wanted Atlanta to win! They did!

I'm a fan of the Kings. They drafted my favorite guard. They traded him away but then got Huerter. I want
them to win except when they play the Hawks. Everything went well!!

Return to Atlanta Hawks
