Everything is expensive
Like every thing now a days is expensive.. food, gas, clothes, sex etc I dont know when things will get better, but it’s not looking good. I might have to sell my goods just to get by, but even then who will be interested ???? Life is life you know what I mean.

Re: Everything is expensive
Inflation is impacting all those prices? Even the last one you mention?

Tough time for many out there, even tougher for those on the margins.

I don't think inflation is hurting the country as much as it normally would since unemployment is so low due to many millenials not wanting to work.

Re: Everything is expensive
Problems in society are systemic due to the organization of society/mode of production. In other words they will keep repeating no matter how many fixes are attempted as long as the core issue exists. Ancient empires have had different (but analogous) modes of production to the current one throughout history and have experienced similar problems, and all went the way of the history books.

Here it is by year. We had high inflation in the 70s and 80s (which it also shows here)...you can see then unemployment ranged from 6-11% from the mid 70s to mid 80s, but still much of the time was 5-6% even when inflation was very low in other years. Unemployment spiked again almost to 10% in 2009 after the banking crisis and took a while to come back down, and then during COVID in 2020 unemployment spike up to almost 6.7% even though inflation was less than 2%. Now inflation is above 7% (and was above 8%) but unemployment is back down to 3.7%.

I think in part this is because after COVID a number of people who had lost jobs, if older, just retired or didn't go back...and then young people too...but fewer work anyway.
Here is a study...

Well, when 6.5 million people die, there tends to be a few more job openings then there were before.bwgood77 wrote:lilfishi22 wrote:bwgood77 wrote:

Does 32 years old still count as a millennial? Because we have one of those on our team it seems.

Re: Everything is expensive
I just hope people are able to make the best out of these wild times. I know people who haven't fared well and others who have been able to use the pandemic as a proverbial kick in the butt to break out of their rut and do something else that they enjoy. My best mate used to have a business setting up pop up food stalls at weekly markets and he was making ridiculous money but the early starts and the long drives took a lot out of him and he just wasn't happy and was looking for a way out but the money was just too good. And when the pandemic hit, everything was shut and he lost his main source of income. He pivoted and started working on building a business around his love of cameras and in the last 3 yrs, he's built a business initially filming real estate videos to now having a small video/content company. It's still small, it still has its cash flow challenges from time to time but he's enjoying this struggle significantly more than when he was making 3-4 times the money at the markets
it's tough and obviously some feel it more than others but every tough time is an opportunity to do something different. Maybe it doesn't lead to anything and at worst you're just back in the same position but at best, it could lead to something much better than the status quo.

Technically yes. He is enjoying being paid to sit at home. I didn't quite realize the age range of millenials. I didn't realize it went all the way to 41.

Re: Everything is expensive
Doesn’t matter what the unemployment rate is. It matters how much wages increase and they are increasing way more slowly than inflation. Thus the hardships.
Also, another issue is that jobs are simply being filled, not created. People lost jobs because of COVID and have now regained a job. The economy booms when jobs are created, which inherently creates competition between positions, which increases wages and the new jobs create new spenders within the economy.
And, I know people hate to hear this, but when you tax the crap out of companies, they still want to make the same profit margins so they sell goods at a higher price.
As for sex getting more expensive, I know I’ve had to charge more just because gas is so expensive. Making house calls is getting less and less profitable for me. (Green font for all the FBI agents snooping in our forum)

You should get an electric vehicle. More expensive out of the gate but if you keep your "visits" within a 30 mile radius it will pay for it itself in the long fat veiny run.

I think the FBI focuses on other things. Yeah, as far as wages lagging inflation, it's been that way as long as I remember. Especially when you look at how much wages have gone up over they years compared to house prices and cost of education.
It's weird what you say early though...last year they called it "The Great Resignation" as so many people left their companies for better ones. Companies had like a 20% turnover rate as people left for better paying jobs and more benefits. Wages have risen more in the past couple years to compete for staff as well as benefits gotten a lot better.

In general, the amount of money people pay to get from point A to point B is ridiculous. I do drive a car but used to drive nicer ones, and yes, I still get the urge to get something nice and/or faster but it's kind of a stupid thought given that I mostly work from home either. So at this point with a car paid off and driving minimal miles because I work 95% from home, I don't spend much, but I have in the past. I know people that live paycheck to paycheck and pay over $500 a month for a car though which seems ridiciulous to me.

I understand what you're saying and an in the same boat as you, I actually just paid off my car last month. I work from home now after literally driving for a living (500+ miles a week) and I've put less than 3k on my car since Covid started.bwgood77 wrote:cberry78 wrote:If you're living in a city, I don't know why just don't take mass transit for your appointments.matt131 wrote:Doesn’t matter what the unemployment rate is.
