He's definitely become one of my new favs. No sane act would want to follow this
guy and when the show is over, you're pretty much left with the idea there ain't
nothin he can't do. Too Much Fun.

How'd I miss this post? Wait, I know -- I was in France, down with Covid.

I tell you what... this guy is absolutely amazing! Gonna try & catch him in Annapolis 11/30 -- I'll have you to thank if so.....

Maybe the best solo break I've heard in my life.
Love to show this clip to people that think metal is just noise. The bad stuff is, but Megadeth is up there with the most talented musicians ever, IMO. This is genius.

Also wanted to say RIP Pharoah Sanders. My idol growing up. Got to see him live a few years ago. He was so weak he couldnt stand, so they brought a chair from the bar for him. But he was still able to play his sax without touching it. He had this amazing technique where he would blow into the sax mouthpiece from a foot or so away! Made a bird mating noise. Awesome.

Enjoy your Saturday....

I'll have to consider going to Annapolis which is a bit of a hike from VA where I live.

FWIW, he's also a really nice guy having spoken to him a couple different times after shows.

Jimi, 1969 @ Royal Albert Hall

A friend sent me this promising it had good quality audio

Note to PIF, am giving serious consideration to seeing Kitchen at Rams Head.
I'll wear my bright red Wizards jacket so you can pick me out if you want to say hello.

No kidding. I may have posted this before but while Duane Allman is my GoaT, I take no issue _at all_
with anyone who says Jimi, who arguably was more of a trend setter than Duane. More recently and after
multiple in-person observations, I have elevated Derek Trucks to this level as well. He's freakin awesome.

All that said, I am grateful to be able to listen to so many astoundingly gift guitarists.
Even my favs would become stale if they were all I could listen to.

Well maybe not Jerry. Recognize that playing a sq neck dobro is like playing
with one finger on your left hand.

I actually got out an electric guitar and fired up my rig down in the basement yesterday.
I normally stick to acoustic. Kinda fun.

sadly there is precious little video of Duane who died in 1971 (motorcycle accident).
Here is one I was able to find. His facial expressions while soloing are fascinating to me.
I find I have a strong emotional response to seeing that.

Finding video of Derek Trucks is easier. Or so I thought in the case of this particular song.

This is probably my fav Trucks song. So Close So Far AwayThe videos I found of live shows had poor audio quality
so I am posting this which is from a live album. The studio version is also awesome.

About 10-12 years ago I made a playlist in the aftermath of completing a 100 mile footrace,
also an emotional experience. Many of the songs touched on the range of emotions that
one feels over the course of the miles. This song reminds me of being 70-80 miles
into the race, in the middle of the night, in the mountains of rural Vermont, many miles
behind you but plenty more to go, particularly with your physical state at that point in
time. I would typically have one other person traveling with me as I passed from aid station
to aid station which might be 60-90 minutes apart in running/walking time. It's other worldly.
I just love the tone that Trucks achieves, Very Allman-esque. And his phrasing.

(you may know this)
I believe Trucks is the nephew of the ABB drummer and founding member, Butch Trucks.
He was a prodigy. There is video out there of him at a very young age.

Here is a video of us (Rick Landers and Heartland) from last year at Thorpewood.
We hadn't been playing together that long when this was recorded. I think we're
noticeably better now.
