Bit OT, but props to the Japanese manager for wearing a three-piece suit and tie. In Qatar. Looked sharp. Team played sharp.

Souness and Neville implying a conspiracy is one of the most hilariously pathetic things I've seen in a while. Souness even compared it to the Lampard goal England scored against Germany in 2010 which wasn't given, which was obviously MILES over the line and not even comparable.
Absolute shambles.
I really can’t stand both of them, biggest bunch of hypocrites. Neville was critical of Unai Simon for the first goal for Japan, basically saying that De Gea wouldn’t of let that happen. When in fact I can picture De Gea doing the same exact thing lol

Happy that Germany is out of WC. Now they can go home and keep discussing their woke agenda.

This is about the performance I expected from this current Germany team. No more Gundogan will be a nice change moving forward and Müller is done too. Not really expecting much for 2024 without major improvements to midfield and defence.

Spain is generaly known for these kind of antics and in different sports too. I doubt it is the case here. Nevertheless, they've put themselves now in the bracket with Portugal then possibly England/France instead of Croatia and later Brazil. Which of these is better, remains to be seen.
There is no easy brackets at later stages , just give Japan credit they deserve, they won fair and square with both Germany and Spain
Don’t get me wrong Japan thoroughly deserved this, but many teams do 'play down' just to avoid potential match ups later on the competition. Saying that though there’s no easy games in the next round.

Still hard to tell. I think it's fair, but in the end, there was not enough evidence to reverse the initial call.

About time. Should have happened 4-6 years ago. He hasn´t scored in a big tournament since 2014. And that´s what killed Germany. Lack of a reliable finisher. They had 32 attempts today and barely managed to to win.
You have a bunch of shots on goal but it just sometimes they don’t go in. Same thing happened to Mexico. Belgium had the same things happened as well. Argentina vs Saudi.
He is one of the best and was always someone you had to account for when he was playing. Such a smart guy who did all the little things.
One time is luck. At some point it´s inability. They had more and better chances in every single game. Dominated games in 2018. Lack of finishing ability cost them big time. And Müller played a big role. Wasted great opportunities.

I give maximum credit to Japan, was rooting hard for them the whole time. Here I was just answering to an earlier statement.

Japan first team to represent Asia in next round. Now all continents are represented in knock out stage. This is great football.

Yes, I agree, it works for some sports, and doesn't work for others.
Are you enjoying this WC? Have you ever watched the others this closely?
NBA 7 game series it’s a money grab , nothing more or less , takes away a lot from Basketball , it’s easy to predict every time and way less drama upsets unless it actually goes to game 7
NBA HAS to generate revenues, especially more TV viewers.
WC doesn't have a revenues problem.
i don't know why people still assume more games = more revenue. NCAA tournament pulls just as many eyes as the NBA playoffs and single game elimination.
in fact, single game elimination will DEF pull more eyes by virtue of it being win or go home. every game is a game 7.

Amen. Sew their mouths shut next time. Maybe it'll help the team to focus better.

I always thought Muller was a key culprit behind the 2018 crash so his retirement is a silver lining. Gundogan's a different story - he got injured at the wrong time with respect to the national team. He's my favorite b2b midfielder aside from Modric. I think even in 2014 he would have displaced Khedira for WC in Brazil if uninjured.
Japan made the only upset of the group stages IMO so far.

And how does it work for ticket sales?
Potentially 3 or 4 home games for each team vs. 0 or 1 home game in a single elimination?
A Warriors fan of all people should know the Warriors gross over $20 million for each playoffs home game.
