People have recently claimed that the Mets collapse this year was the worst in baseball history. I disagree. I maintain that the worst three collapses are as follows (see if you agree):
1. 1964 Philadelphia Phillies (up 6 games with 10 to go; they lose their last 10);
2. The Yankees up 3-0 in the 2004 ALCS and then lose 4 in a row to the Bosox;
3. ???????
Here are some other great regular season MLB collapses from a MLB.com article:

1. 1951, Brooklyn Dodgers to NY Giants

Good find Wingy22
The majority from the start of the season seemed to believe that the Mets making the playoffs was going to be automatic. For any team that has a payroll of 100 plus million it should be.
Obviously it's a different ERA now but the demand for the Mets to win is as high as it's ever been.
I believe the biggest collapse was:
The Yankees up 3-0 in the 2004 ALCS and then lose 4 in a row to the Bosox;
That was still the post season and not the regular season.

Remember when you claimed the Mets couldn't beat the Braves and that you guys were winning the division?

I hope you enjoyed eating crow. Next time, never bet on a third place team. The odds just aren't in your favor, especially with Braves management and fans still living in the past. Like mets87 said, get used to third place. This division is going to be a two team race year in and year out between the Mets and Phils.
