He needs to do that more often with the way these guys are finishing. That’s going to bite them in the butt when they have few scoring opportunities against solid defensive teams. They can beat Netherlands. After that I’m not sure.

Argentina had so many chances to close the door and for it to end with a game saving goal with the only shot on goal in the final mins has to be concerning. They got by with Messi being Messi and a stupid goal keeper mistake.

Good game Argentina. Far too talented for our boys. They showed heart and fight though. Proud they made it that far.

Pretty good showing for Australia this Cup. They just ran into the same problem the US did, and I imagine some more non Europe/South American teams will in the next few days. At some point talent is just too much to overcome.

Yeah, now that I know what those numbers are about haha, that really seems accurate to how I saw the game.

Indeed. England, France, Brasil, Spain, Portugal and Croatia should advance as well. Only Germany, Italy and Belgium are out. All other countries are happy to reach the last 16.

I'm guessing out of the 6 Euro/Brazil teams left, one will be upset. Maybe even two. Just the pure odds of a favorite winning every match is probably less than 50%. Still, I won't be shocked at all if all those countries advance either.

Croatia and Spain are the most likely to get upset. I don't see how the rest of them will lose. Croatia are old, so for them reaching the last 16 would be objective accomplished

Messi is brilliant, but Argentina's over-reliance on him to set everything up is going to be their downfall. There need to be more creative plays and the other players need to play with more confidence. The Netherlands game will be interesting.

IF Messi can maintain his current form, he alone can be enough in terms of creating chances. The problem is finishing as we've seen over the years. Their forwards just turn to **** in front of the net when they join the NT.

tbh for all the hype, the only surprise is that Belgium haven't made the quarters and that happened because they aged overnight.

Otherwise all the expected teams are on their way to the last 8

Holland
Argentina
Brazil
England
France
Spain
Portugal

And you've got to imagine that 4 of those 7 will be in the semis and 2 of them in the final.

The early rounds are simply money making machines and a target for the rest of the world. Like the Champion's league we could simply seed 6 teams for the last 8 and have everyone else play a competition to make the remaining 2 places.
I remember when the Dolphins were perennial contenders
