lol, I can't remember which legendary player it was. I think it was Johan Cruyff. They would do the shootouts where a player would start from the midfield line and go 1 on 1 with the keeper. Basically, like hockey.

Anyways, he said that was the most fun thing about the American's soccer league. He loved it.

This was before the MLS though. This was way back in the NASL.

I think they stopped doing this because of injuries.

MLS did it too, was hugely entertaining to watch, a lot more than PKs, I just don't get how players didn't have a 100% success rate on shootouts.

Sidenote, those Galaxy jerseys were some of my favorites

PKs definitely are a **** way to get knocked out, but I love them. It’s soccer 101, a return to the basics. Backyard soccer. “Shoot on me and try to score.”
The players cannot run forever.

Yeah, if they are going to remove penalties.... they should maybe do Golden Goal after 120 minutes and infinite substitutions lol. And players subbed out can come back in.

Not the best idea lol, but just spitballing how a game can end with no PKs.

Nerves got the better of the Japanese sadly. If there’s a positive, I’m glad more than one missed so the first shooter never copped all the blame.

I don't have a solution. I just know I can't stand the one we've got.

Good point, this is why I like it too in a way. You reach a point where it's just like "ok. that's it. No more bullchit and beating around the bush. Put the ball in the center and let's see who can shoot the best".

I just hate when players try to finesse a pass in the corner only to put it 3 feet away from center.

Golden goal seems okay I guess, but it could last another 30-40 minutes. Maybe longer. Then you could have a match nearing 3 hours. Some matches are hard to separate.

completely agree, these guys can't run forever, if it doesn't finish in 90+15 PKs are fine with me, even tho its a tough way to lose.

Or Uruguay going after the ref into the tunnel lol.

The Japanese understand being a guest and how to treat their guests as well.

I'm going there in the Spring and heard nothing but good things.

They all did some dance in a circle, came across as a bit arrogant like they'd already won, at least to me.

But it's Brazil and they love to dance, so I can't be too critical.

At least I can squeeze a nap in now before workout/work. These early kickoffs have been f'ing killing me.
