Not a needle mover by any means, but JJ isn't a terrible acquisition considering the available options out there. 9ers definitely could have done worse.

I know they probably put him on IR, making him ineligible to play even if he was able to?
I think they're in the window, with a mix of high-salary players and now Bosa coming due for a big contract soon.
So they may feel pressure to have a good backup in case Trey still doesn't produce next season. They can't go through another season with uncertainty at the QB position. Too many good players and a high payroll for them to discard a season.

Agreed. Grab him as a backup as the current guy they picked up sounds incapable. Let Purdy start until he shows he can't do it. Then if necessary bring in Mayfield. Desperate times call for Desperate measures.Jikkle wrote:No question I'd claim Mayfield.
The offense is the same one he ran with the Browns so it wouldn't take him long to be functional in the system and we're set up much like the Browns when he had his best season with a strong defense and focus on running the ball.
He's probably better than Purdy and he's better than Johnson and at least he's more talented than either one and has more big-game experience.
Don't get me wrong I don't love Mayfield or anything but if you're asking me to roll the dice on him, a 7th-round rookie, or a career journeyman backup I'd roll the dice on him and hope he gets hot during the playoffs.

Now the question is about IR. So we can bring two guys off the IR. If Jimmy can play, he's gotta be one of them. That leaves Kinlaw, who should be close to returning, and Mitchell. Both guys are made of tissue paper and I can see both getting hurt again once they return. Mitchell has played better in those brief times they played, but with CMC and Mason playing well, Kinlaw may play the more valuable position.

But oof, the Rams pick would be #4 in the draft and the Lions have it.
Another oof, the Broncos pick would be #3 and the Seahawks have it.
