Vote Zion

Nominate Banchero

I'm going with Zion over Tatum, due to generational player upside outweighing the injury concerns.

Vote: Tatum

Nominate: Donovan Mitchell (similar class of player as SGA/Booker/JA for me, deal puts a bit behind, but not so far off)

Steph Curry plays Significantly better than Jayson Tatum in the post-season last year, is signed longer and is having a season matching his 2016 season and yet Tatum is worth more...hmm...

I think we are getting ahead of ourselves a bit here.

I mean I don't need to state the obvious that age makes significant difference. Warriors would value Curry over Tatum and everyone else though which makes it hard.

Age is an interesting variable that many people seem to overvalue.

Curry has 2024, 2025 and 2026 remaining on his contract.
Tatum has 2024 and 2025.

Curry is the better player--it wasn't remotely close last year and it isn't debatable this year either [Though team record will have you think that way, If only Wiseman, Kuminga and Moody could replicate Horford, Grant Williams and Derrick White]. The Celtics role players are shooting over 20 3PA/G and hitting at a combined 46% from 3--This is absurd.

I actually don't see Tatum as being a poor choice, I just see so many clear and obvious arguments for Curry I am surprised it is a landslide.

V Steph Curry, final answer. Second most marketable guy in the NBA, even for casual fans, behind only ..

Steph is 35 in March. Tatum is 25 in March. Their trajectories are likely to go in opposite directions... I definitely see the argument.

I am sure he will prove me wrong, but I just don't see Curry still being this good still in a couple years. He faltered during the RS last year. And while he's on fire offensively, the team is .500. He's going to remain marketable, but I think he will be a somewhat rough contract on the court in his age 36 and 37 seasons. Though i'm not going to fault anyone for picking differently than I am, because I don't love years of control for Tatum here. Luckily he will be DVP extension eligible, though.

Many if not most teams would expect to sign guys again after their current deals end. It's not a sure thing so there's some discount for contract length but it's generally likely.

If you have Tatum on your roster now (and you're a competently run team) then there's a strong chance of having Tatum on your roster for the next decade. That's a lot of value that an older player like Curry can't come close to matching.

Vote: Tatum

IMO there's a clear separation from the top-4 to the next tier. Tatum's 4th but IMO closer to 1st than 5th.
