Watching that second French goal , I count approximately 4 England players who are not marking anyone , total breakdown

France actually isn't that deep in this WC. They came into it without Pogba, Benzema, and Kante. Yes, they're starting XI is still strong, but they don't have a deep bench. They kept Giroud in the game after he scored which was a very risky move. They only took off Dembele.

England is much deeper and had Kane scored that penalty, and the game went into ET, France would've been in deep trouble.

They are very deep even with injuries, except in midfield and RB (no idea why they didn't bring more midfielders). A few of those bench players are the best attackers in Bundesliga, and they have CBs for ages. Tunisia game was not representative, that's just filling up a field with a bunch of players who weren't preparing to play together competitively and in different positions. If they were missing the starting XI they'd still have a good chance to win a group.

Not getting on your case at all or trying to diminish your perspective, I'm just curious.

Just watching the replays and I still can’t believe the idiocy of the French defenders giving up those penalties. Just insanity.

Why? Was there some sub he should have made or something? Did he forget to tell Kane to score on his second penalty? Seemed like England was doing fine tactically.

Yeah this wasn't really on Southgate. It was actually one of the better England knockout matches.

Yeah, I agree with everyone that Southgate isn't to blame for this. His poor game management cost us in the Euro 2020 final, that's undeniable, but I think we were very well coached this WC. Played our best shape throughout, team was mostly fine.

Last 100 years every 4 years they think they have amazing future yet they blew it all the time with one exception in 66

Yet MBappe and his bunch of nonchalant friends looks like a clear cut favorite again
