Re: Around The League: 2021-2022 Season 2.0
Why doesn't Towns get the love?
Towns is the best shooting big ever (even better than Dirk), so shouldn't there be some credit applied there? And his defensive numbers are way better than Dirk's.
Dirk was a winner and even took down a superteam without any help, but the Mavs were a quality organization. Towns is stuck in Minnesota. A place where the great Kevin Garnett could barely win a playoff series.
Towns is super underrated, IMO. His shooting is elite, his rebounding and playmaking are rock solid, and his shotblocking numbers are excellent. I feel like he's been unfairly criticized his whole career.

I think he’s just hard to root for because he’s an immature kid. Constantly loses his temper and gets rattled, incredibly stupid fouls, pouting and whining all game, loses concentration constantly, etc. I’ve gone to a lot of Wolves games since moving to Minneapolis and I’m out on the guy. He just consistently folds in the face of adversity in games.
With that said, he’s an incredibly gifted player that I’d love to see in a different organization. I’ve become obsessed with the idea of Toronto trading for him. They have the wings to cover him defensively and they need his shooting and playmaking.
Towns for Siakim would actually be a good, fun trade for both teams.

Towns hasn't won.
Dirk had an MVP and top teams....and yet until that finals run was seen as a choker.
Towns has been seen as soft and got memed on his whole career...and he was very dumb in the playoffs last year in terms of fouls. Also talks a lot of ****.
Thats the major difference and until he starts winning it will continue

KAT didn’t want to be the center anymore despite his shot blocking excellence and made the Wolves trade their future for Rudy Gobert, lol.

Interesting. Maybe a 3 team deal with Tobias included could would work for everyone.

Cam might actually have a better dribble package than Maxey. I think it’s a matter of time before he becomes a 6MOY winner.

As the 4 other Nets on the court clear out and stand off to the side, I'm not even detecting any bad body language. Could it possible that they'd simply accepted Cam for what he is?

Just looked at the minutes distribution for the Nets. Shocked to see Day'Ron Sharpe is playing even less this year. Somebody should trade for him ASAP and make him their starting C. He's about as rock solid an all-around starting C as you can get. He'd be like Wendell Carter for someone.

Not good around to build your offense and not good enough on defense for a star caliber center
Sliding to PF with an alpha playmaker/shotcreator on offense while playing with a center playing star caliber defense should solve it for him and the Wolves

Wolves had a top 10 offense last year, built through Towns. And that was even in spite of Edwards and Russell taking too many threes at bad shot selection. They messed that all up with the Gobert trade. Now their offense is middle of the pack.
They've even gotten worse defensively WITH Gobert.
What a dumb trade.

Speaking of the T'Wolves, as the role gets larger for Kyle Anderson, I get more angry that we have PJ Tucker for essentially the same price. I get that Morey was absolutely bending to Harden's will in terms of surrounding him with his Houston friends (thus getting the Harden discount), but this is once again a scenario where we see NBA stars are terrible at team building.

Not all of them are terrible. Draymond Green recruited Kevin Durant and this created the most overpowered team in the history of basketball. But yeah, most NBA stars probably just want to play with their friends.

Because he's a center, and centers cannot be bad at defense as they're anchors.
The defensive scheme last year rellied on guys covering Town ass right and left and that's kind of unsustainable against offenses that actually attack the paint

The Hawks are without Murray and Collins, Trae is 4/16 from the floor and they're beating the Bulls anyway.
Lol Chicago

Bulls need to pull the plug. Get as many picks that they can for Demar and Lavine and tank like hell for Victor.

-interesting to see AJ Griffin down the stretch. He’s just 19 and making big plays for the Hawks.
- bulls runs 3-4 guard units down the stretch, with Vuc! And with a liability like Lavine! Thats not gonna work against top teams in the playoffs. But who knows..
- great offensive set for the winning basket.

Yeah. But that’s their ceiling. If they need to push it further they need to make risk/changes.
The narrative of Wolves being worse with Gobert is overblown.
Gobert on court 107DRtg (3rd best in the league when he’s oncourt), Off Court 113DRg
This season Wolves 112DRtg, Last Season Wolves 111 DRtg, almost the same.
The reason why Wolves offense is bad, is Vanderbuilt-Towns-Gobert is not a good fit with Edwards DLo. Or Edwards-DLo is not a good fit with Vanderbuilt-Towns Gobert.
If Wolves have Mitchell-DLo-Edwards-Towns-Gobert, that 5 could give them better offense than the Cavs. If rationale is its because of talent, then you can have Clarkson or Conlet in Mitchell’s place and they’ll be just as good.
Conley-DLo-Edwards-Towns-Gobert
DLo-Clarkson-Edwards-Towns-Gobert
The problem is DLo and Edwards are high usage and are too inconsistent as scorers. They have to decrease their usage and let a playmaker/creator who’s more efficient to have a higher usage. Preferably a guard.
This way they’ll trend towards a Cavs or or Jazz set-up.
Still, it’s a bad trade for the Wolves. Because centers are so cheap nowadays that you should not trade more than 2 draft picks, specially for Gobert.
How cheap are bigs? They traded Kessler (107DRtg on vs 115 DRtg off; 12rpg and 3.9bpg per 36) who has a good chance to end up being better than Gobert in the very near future.
What Wolves should have done is to stay put. continue to start Vanderbuilt then develop Kessler on the side until Kessler becomes ready, similar to what Jazz did from start of the season when Kessler is playing off the bench and is now slowly starting games
Then they should have used those picks to get another guard or possibly upgrade DLo.
There’s never been a time in history when we look back and say that the people who were censoring free speech were the good guys.

Lol insane shot but all I can think about is how glad I am that LaVine isn’t on our team. What infuriating shots those were.
