Was a great figure of my childhood, and a great man. Sorry to hear this.

Re: Paul Silas RIP
RIP to the greatest coach in Charlotte Hornets history.
I still remember him taking over in 99 after Cowens got sacked and doing a really stellar job making that team respectable the final few months (similar in many ways to what Steve Wilks has done with the Panthers). He was the rare interim coach who became a long-term pillar of stability. The 00-02 Hornets teams were excellent, even had a chance at making the Finals if a few balls bounce differently, and even though Silas was never a master tactician he was the steadying presence that kept things rolling even as tragedy (RIP Bobby Phills), constant roster turnover and a looming relocation threatened to ruin everything.
I never had the chance to meet him, but I've heard many first-hand accounts of how gracious he was towards the community. He seemed like a real mensch and the Charlotte sports nation will surely miss him.

Re: Paul Silas RIP
I always smiled whenever I see him watching Hornets games especially when Stephen is no longer part of the coaching staff. May his soul rest in peace.

Re: Paul Silas RIP
RIP coach Silas.
Some of my favourite Hornets teams (other than LJ/Zo) were the BDiddy/Wesley/Mashburn/PJ that rebounded/Magloire playoff teams. They always flirted with being successful but couldn't quite get over the hump.

Re: Paul Silas RIP
Loved coach Silas. What a strong and caring man, who was the definition of confident leadership. Hope to hear comments from the players who he led and some great stories.
I continue to wait...and hope...for the return to Hornet's glory.
