Re: Tatum and Brown
Klay can do it more consistently beyond the arc while JB more midrange and drives off curls but still a cool way to enhance his strengths.

For all the talk of Jaylen being used as a play finisher more, the same is true for Tatum. He’s cutting more, screen off ball way more, and running off screens/pindowns more. I actually wish we’d use him more as an initiator because of it warping the defense. But I think they’re trying to preserve him a bit, plus they’ve really unlocked his off ball gravity.

Last few games Jaylen is playing much better than JT. And you can see more Jaylen on ball than usual.

What is last few games? Last three games, Jaylen is 26 ppg on .528 TS%. Tatum 24.6ppg on .515 TS%. They've both been bad.

Stop using your stats. Jaylen is playing bettter than JT the last 7/8 games (Sorry, english is not my language). He had only 8 TO in the last 5 games.BK_2020 wrote:Stan34 wrote:Last few games Jaylen is playing much better than JT. And you can see more Jaylen on ball than usual.

I wrote that he have had the ball in his hands more than usual cause when JT is not working (sometimes happens to the bests too) JB becomes first initiator.

I don't think it really happens that way. For whatever reason, whenever Tatum goes out, Jaylen seems to touch the ball less. Last game, Jaylen sat at about the 9 minute mark in the 3rd, then started the 4th without Tatum. Jaylen didn't get any non-broken play touches until the 8 minute mark. For the entire time Tatum was sitting, the Celtics went repeatedly with Brogdon and White as their on ball creators.
They did go to Jaylen as the on-ball guy a lot after the 8 minute mark. He did have a nice kick out to the corner for a three but was largely ineffective. I do see the effort to get him those reps and hopefully it pays off.
Honestly what's truly amazing about Jaylen is that he is able to score at the volume he does, which is considerable, from off-ball, transition and broken play opportunities.
Are Tatum and Brown good enough as option 1 and 2 on champ squad?

Going to answer a question with a question: who is a better duo currently? Currently is what matters. They’re not playing Kobe and Shaq this year or next.

Giannis and Middleton pretty good champ combo. Giannis rampaging the basket for 3.5 quarters, and Middleton to finish things up.

They have enough talent yes. Will they do enough in crunch time when their title hopes are on the line? Will joe allow their opponents to go on 20-0 runs without calling a timeout? To be continued.

Agree with your points, especially timely plays being essential. I think Jokic and a healthy Jamal Murray are an underrated combo that can score when needed, but Tatum I can see making timely defensive plays if he struggles offensively. By the way, Joe has a little Phil Jackson in that regard.

Sure. If they play well and the rest of the team clicks around them, they're definitely good enough. But they and everybody else need to do their parts.

Traditionally you have one player that has won an MVP or wins and MVP as your #1 option.
And another one with multiple all-star appearances at least as a duo.
In the past decade it's been 2 guys with MVPs as a duo at least.
So traditionally, no they're not good enough. And recently especially they're super under talented.
With what the NBA has been the past couple season and is this season... they should be.
But if you stacked the talent up side by side for the "big 3s" they should lose to MIL.
Tatum, Brown, Brodgdon = 0 MVPs, 1 multi time all-star, 1 one time all-star, 1 non all-star
vs
Giannis, Middleton, Jrue = 1 MVP, 1 multi time all-star, 1 single time allstar
Traditionally MIL should roll through us unless we get more top end talent on the team. Or all of Tatum, Brown, and Brodgon level up this year.
Or theoretically the "others" on MIL are complete **** compared to the "others" on Boston but when it comes to the playoffs the others have never mattered so it's not really statistically relevant to even mention that one.

I like how you extended it from 2 players to 3. The drop off from Brogdon compared to Holiday is sizeable, and for all the talk about the improving Celtics bench and role players, Bucks have some good ones too. So yes, Bucks should be favored in a playoff series, but I will say Horford and Grant have the ability to slow down Giannis more than any other big man combination I've seen. However, Celtics had it easier last year with no Middleton to worry about.

They were a good enough 1-2 last year, so yes. Problem is that they ran into a team whose 1-2-3 has been to finals 6 times in last 8 years and whose #5 was Wiggins - a max salary player, an all star and a former #1 pick.
"I think the criticism's stupid," Stevens said. "So I don't care. I'm with Jaylen (Brown) on that. Those two had achieved more than most 25 and 26 year olds ever had. I'd rather be in the mix and have my guts ripped out than suck."
