This team is mediocre. Kyrie and KD will not continue to play at this level, they've never sustained it before. Either they'll fall off, or they'll get hurt. Even when healthy, they're not enough to make us contenders.
And Ben Simmons rounding into All-Star form? LMAO! He's a straight liability, especially in the playoffs. Whatever, y'all are gonna see soon enough...AGAIN.
I disagree. I will not speak much to your opinion of Ben except to say that I personally think he has the skill set to be a major part of us being a contender. We particularly need his perimeter size and defense. I think he has been ludicrously crucified, primarily for one play in one game. But again, I haven't studied his career, so mine is just an observational opinion.
I more strongly disagree with your statements about KD and KAI. I think they have already shown that they could make us a contender, when healthy, as recently as the year before last. It's unprovable, but I think we were not only a contender, but would have won it all if Kyrie was not taken out in the Bucks' series.
More perplexing is your declaration, as if a certainty, that they have never sustained such excellence before.
KD has averaged 27.3PPG, at 49.8%, with 7.1 boards, and 4.3 assists, for 15 years and 967 games. He has the fourth highest all time per game average in league and playoff (29.41 PPG) NBA history. Kyrie has the 26th highest per game league average at 23.1 PPG, with 3.9 boards, and 5.7 assists, in 631 games in 12 years.
Who knows, at this relatively early stage, if this team will be a contender. Since the days of the peach basket contenders have had exceptional players, such as ours, on exceptional teams. We sometimes forget it is a team game. But LeBron's fortunes last year should remind us. There probably were others, particularly in the early days with fewer teams, but the only exception that leaps to my mind is Rick Barry's championship the year after Nate Thurmond retired. They obviously were still good but I thought they beat a better team on route.
