If you had to redraft Paolo and Franz, which player do you take first?

The sophomore thread on the General Board made me think about ceilings and number 1 options and all that nonsense that people love to assume is guaranteed to happen. Then I realized we have an example of that tradeoff right on our team.

Do you take Paolo, who already has one elite skill, has unique physical tools, and racks up points without trying, yet still seems like a raw prospect with question marks?

Or do you take Franz, who already looks like a complete and polished player, yet continues to add more to his game faster than we can appreciate?

After you've made your choice, feel free to reassure yourself that we don't have to decide.

I’m in the minority and would take Franz. Nothing against Paulo at all, I think both have a solid chance at becoming a star. I just think that Franz has shown that he can be good at just about everything and knows how to control the pace of the game.

I think some people will argue that Paulo has a higher ceiling, but I think the sky is the limit for both of them. The Magic have their duo of the future, would love to make it a trio in this draft!

It’s fun to be able to say that there is no wrong answer. You truly couldn’t go wrong with either one. I would go with Paolo because his ability to just overpower and get calls is really valuable, and you know he’s going to develop as a shooter.

Cant go wrong, but Paolo without a doubt. Dude is dropping 22-23ppg and plays like a vet. And most importantly, he already as a ROOKIE is like 5th in the league at free throw attempts. We have been one of the lowest free throwing shooting teams in the nba for about 6-7 years (worst in the league last year). Pretty sure Paolo alone has us in top 10 now. No big timer scorer in the NBA, doesn't average a huge amount of free throws a game.

I would say Franz is can be a , 23-24PPG, 5 rb, 5 ast type of guy.

Paolo can be a 28-29ppg /8 rb/6 ast one day imo and soon. sky is the limit

You don’t need your highest paid players to be bigs to play winning basketball in 2022.

It doesn’t take anything away from Paolo. Franz is just a more complete player that you can plug into any lineup.

I can't see a scenario where picking Paolo would be the wrong move. No NBA team with the balance of the rest of our roster would take Franz first if they had neither of the two.

I'd suggest every single NBA GM would trade the rights to Franz and a lightly protected future first to get Paolo if they were in the same draft.

While I will not argue that, without Franz/Paolo we have only one true starting caliber player in WCJ on the entire roster. Everyone else is J.A.G.

Paolo seemed to struggle last couple games with his offense. He still has a lot of work to do, especially his 3PT shooting.

Franz is just amazing. So creative with his drive to the rim.

If I have to choose, I choose Franz

Paolo has played 21 NBA games. Franz finished a full NBA season plus Euroleague. One has more points, rebounds and assist than the other. The other is a better shooter and defender. One gets to the free throw line more, the other is a better drive finisher. One draws in more defenders, the other have a higher bbiq (and you probably don’t know which is which). Both are all around players and we have them both. I’m just going to sit here and enjoy them, you can’t make me choose.

Franz. No matter how is future development ends, he is the perfect fit for almost every system already. If Paolo doesnt learn to shoot, he could end up pretty easily a stat stuffer without much impact.

Now with that said, if I was a GM building a winning team i would go with Franz. If i was a team owner who wanta to sell tickets/sponsors/ads/etc, I would go with PB cuz he has that *omph* star power that the public wants to emulate.
