Re: Killian Hayes is Really...Bad
Last 10 games he’s shooting 44/38/88 which is probably what he needs to stick around long term to be a useful player. Hopefully this represents true progress rather than just a hot streak.

Opportunity wasnt his problem, Casey was playing him real minutes from the start, he was just awful. We will see how this goes.

Sorry if you feel jinxed or smth, but this is basketball forum, and the kid who was high lotto pick was playing terribly for two years, we cant discuss that at all, then what we can discuss? Some people are too bitter here, no one who says guy plays bad, actually wishes failure or anything like that, it is just an observation.

Someone had to fill all the dead space that got sucked out of the room when Bey collapsed. Dude has turned from promising to a big zero overnight.

Hayes got all the opportunity in the world in his rookie season (when he wasn't injured) and a good chunk of last year before being relegated to the bench finally.
It's all about his own mindset and playing aggressive, he's been way too shy to attack in the past and now that he's playing with confidence and playing aggressive, he's showing improvement. It also helps that he worked on his 3 point shot in the offseason, it opens up more of the court for him.
With all that said, it's a small sample size so I wouldn't anoint him yet but encouraging signs nonetheless.

Killian continuing to do his thing with Cade out. He's turning into one of the go-to playmakers /scorers. Clearly outperforming Ivey at the moment too. Last 10 games: putting up 13.7 pts / 7.7 assists / 1.4 steals on 45%/38% shooting.

I looooove those uni's. Everybody knew Killian was a project when he was drafted. He was playing a ton of minutes before he was ready for them and suffered a career altering hip injury. The combination of which made it really hard to judge him as a player. From the outside, he looked god-awful.
Glad to see he's seemingly found his shot and confidence. He's playing well.

He's like a completely new player this season. Super confident and playing awesome. I don't know if I ever said it out loud but last season I remember thinking he was a bust and not really an NBA player, so I'm glad to see he's proving me wrong.

After watching the clip, that stop and pop shot from the elbow was money for Hayes. It seemed to open up all sorts of passing lanes. Hayes also looks huge out there. I wish he would actually attack the basket from time to time. Or with his size, develop a post move or two. He needs to find some way to get easy buckets closer to the basket when his jumper isn't soaking wet like it was against Charlotte. Then again, Rubio never figured that part out either and he's been a solid player for years.

Re: Killian Hayes is Really...Bad
The next stage of Killian's evolution should be developing some moves near the basket. He's generally comfortable in the mid-range and outside the 3pt arc, but doesn't have much going for him in the paint. Not sure if that's a floater or what, but he needs something. Side note, I've always been impressed with his passing. He can put it right into the shooter's chest and can fire absolute lasers. It's fun to watch.

Nothing beats game reps. Not looking over your shoulder to get pulled. Defense was always solid. Injuries provide opportunity.

Hayes blowing up is 'bad' for the Pistons, essentially drafted 3 PGs in a row. Not going to be able to keep all 3 long term and there won't be primary ball handler reps for all 3 later in the year.

Re: Killian Hayes is Really...Bad
Glad he's playing better, but anyone who wants to lie and say he wasn't arguably the worst player in the NBA for two whole years isn't worth listening to. With that being said, kudos to the Pistons brass for not giving up on him. They obviously saw something behind the scenes that kept them encouraging him.

Re: Killian Hayes is Really...Bad
I was really interested in Hayes at draft time until i watched his interview with Mike Schmitz. Shy doesn't begin to describe it. In an industry absolutely loaded with big characters, egos, obsessives and individualists, a shrinking violet like Hayes playing quarterback on your team is a big risk.
He had his technical issues, particularly being very one handed. But there was plenty of skill in his game predraft. I don't think he lacks work ethic or IQ either. He's simply extremely introverted and I'm not a bit surprised it's taken him time to settle and begin to flourish.

Even his post-game interviews have changed. New country, second language, struggling on the court, it’s not surprising he presented as overwhelmed early on. He doesn’t sound that way now.
I’m not gonna lie, I’d pretty much given up on him a couple weeks into this season. It really seems to have happened, though. The switch has flipped, and now it’s not “will he make it in the league long term?” but rather “how good can he become?”.

I don’t think having 3 different talented guards who are 6’4”+ and under 22 years old can be a bad thing. At worst, Killian boosts his trade value this season and they move him for a better fitting player and/or picks.

Time to start up the ‘Saddiq Bey is Really…Bad’ thread.

There is no universe where one of your young players developing and balling out is "bad". Hayes has gone from unplayable on a 7.3M/yr contract next season to a potential starter alongside Cade. No reason why they can't have a 3 guard rotation of Cade/Hayes/Ivey next year, and if doesn't work then at least all 3 of them have trade value rather than Hayes having to be dumped for nothing.

I'm REALLY glad Killian has picked it up, have seen games he's played in and his confidence is night and day. So many were writing him off and calling him a net negative bust but he's slowly turned the corner to being a productive player and threat. Good for him.
