Killian Hayes is Really...Bad

The year is still short and he's shooting sub 40% from 2. The three point shooting is up, and why couldn't he shoot 33% or whatever from three, i never thought he was capped out in the 20s or anything. I don't really assume a guy in the 20s is running hot in three point shooting anyways, its pretty clear he's not if he's in the nba.

I mean I like the guy but looking JUST at his season stats as an outsider he's getting pretty hyped for a guy playing well for part of a season. Actually if you ignore the "fluky" threes, the FT drawing and 2pt% seem pretty disasterous in his overall stats for the year.

Again, if you look at the overall numbers you'd see in flashing neon "Killian Hayes still quite bad at scoring again, no real improvement", I think.

Further, although his shooting has improved, that’s not even the big thing here. His WILLINGNESS to shoot is what has greatly improved, and that’s a game-changer for Killian. He was pathetically passive.

People use this phrase too much, but Hayes REALLY looks like an entirely different player on the court. The Kilian Hayes from the last 2 seasons was absolutely not doing head fake hesitations to blow by secondary defenders, or behind the back crossovers into a step back 3.

Nah.

I mean I get it, but he started off the year really really horrible (even for him) (20% FG in 11 games) and that brought his number down, but maybe that's because he's still bad and his overall numbers reflect that of a bad scorer. Just like the start of the year was a cold streak, this is likely a hot streak for him. Anyways hopefully he keeps doing well and brings his 2pt% into the .400s and beyond! I kind of like him and am rooting for him actually.

Yeah I think if he were even an ok scorer I think he's known to be a solid defender and good playmaker, so he'd be a rotational nba guy and not a bust. He just has that one big weakness, which some believe has already been fixed/ameliorated or whatever.

He is basically Shaun Livingston. A tall PG that can't score but useful on a good team.

Drafted way too high by Detroit knowing he won't be even under contract with them when he is in his prime. Luckily they have Cade so not a big blow anymore.

Killian Hayes has made 34 threes in 32 games so it's possible people just missed those rare moments when he actually does make a shot.

Its much more likely a player simply gets hot despite being a bad shooter over a month than the bad shooter suddenly becomes a good shooter over a month.

I like Killian, but you cant say a month of good shooting is going to last after how bad he has shot the ball the 2 years and change before said month.
