Thing is, I think it’s very likely Becky is THAT GOOD. I hope she gets a shot soon. I’d take her for my team next year.

IMO, Becky is literately the only female even qualified from the female pool that is out there. I would also take her on a starting young team if I was GM too, even over other quailied men. That's how good I think she is. I wouldn't hire any other woman though.

Agree wholeheartedly.
But maybe pertinent to point out that Michele Roberts was formerly the NBPA director... not really the same, but not far off too. Point is, there is progress being made in that regard.

I think it would be cool to see also. I would prefer to see it happen organically from the bottom up rather than imposed from the top down. But it's taken quite a long time and we haven't seen any break that glass ceiling of NBA head coach yet.

Once pop retires I hope Becky Hammon gets to coach the spurs.

There's not even enough female coaches in the WNBA why should we have one in the men's league?

Good point. I just think it’s easy for people to call for other people to get hired when they wouldn’t give up their job. How many women directly report to Adam silver?

Woke is the thing where I cant look at different points of view and barriers other people face so I get upset because it doesnt benefit my particular gender/race

Anyways, Matter of time, Listening to a lot of the Portland guys they respected her, The leagues much more professional then trash tier real-gm posters so its not like paid driven professionals are going to have an issue hiring the best person for the job

You had it back in the day where teams didn't want to hire blacks because they were afraid of people not wanting a black guy telling them what to do, **** attitudes eventually change. There is about 5/6 Female assistant coaches so it's a matter of time

Two, which might not sound a lot but it's the most out of any professional sporting league in the USA

I agree and to be honest aiming for the first female GM makes way more sense.

The female coaching pipeline in men's basketball is almost non-existent. I'm not saying we shouldn't start to build one, but it's incredibly unfair to demand teams hire a female HC when there are next to no current female coaches in men's high school or college basketball or among NBA assistant ranks to recruit from.

There are however plenty of smart and capable women graduating with MBAs from prestigious universities which are the kind of talent that typically fill high level front office positions. The candidates are already out there to hire a female GM.

I'd be disappointed in 5 years if we don't have a female commissioner

Sorry but why is this even a discussion? Does there need to be a woman coaching at the NBA level? If she is that qualified and proven to gain the respect of men of many personas in any given locker room then why not but why does it have to be some kind of talking point by Silver?

I wish it would just happen already so it stops being a thing. I'm skeptical but interested to see how it works out.

It’s marketing drivel by Silver. The rage nowadays is to proclaim you want gender equality in order to score points. He probably wants to appear progressive to distract from the recent Kyrie controversy and ensure the league is viewed favourably.

Good question. I think woke can be many things but at its foundation I think its just an idealistic way of thinking. A push for ideal equality and values and being woken to oppression and injustice.

Sometimes the ideal can clash with the real.

Ideal values may not fit into a practical situation.

That's the problem with idealism overall.

You could claim that part of the Jackie Robinson hire back in the day was a form of that in some aspects. He faced massive backlash from fans and opposing teams, including racial slurs in game. He was a hell of a player though and clearly deserved to be in it. Just because most woman probably would not make a good head coach doesn't mean none of them are qualified.

It's just funny seeing no one bat an eyelash at any ethnicity of man getting the job but any woman and it's a huge deal.

Is it though?

I don't think there is any rule that every candidate must be a man, if a woman ever existed that could play like Kobe Bryant or even some more mediocre NBA player you can bet your ass she would draw attention.

The WNBA was not made to have a place to put females, it was made because 99% of women players have no shot at playing at the level of an NBA player. **** even today in sports you can find females playing on some predominantly men based high school football teams.
