I just like seeing Cubs fans angered he went to their rivals. Made for a good morning.

The lengths of these deals are always bonkers.

This one is truly wild. SD's got like 5 natural/original shortstops now and Bogarts is signed until he's almost 42

That probably means Adames will command a lot, too. I wouldn't blame them for seeing how the first few months go, but if they're not playing really well by July, they should definitely trade him if SS's are in such high demand.

Glad the Cardinals didn't pony up for Correa. As long as they're trying to compete this year, may as well hope it works.

The length of these contracts is completely ridiculous. Willy Adames has to be salivating at the kind of payday he could see if he can put together any kind of ability to get on base a little more consistently.

I guess Dansby Swanson turned down 6/$100m from Atlanta during the season and counter-offered with 6/$140m. Atlanta probably wishes they had made something work. If nothing else, he would have been a nice trade chip on something comparable to that deal if they're not set on keeping him.

My win-now scenario of moving Adames to 3B and signing Swanson for ~6/$120m is obviously dead as a doornail at this point.

I'm still stunned the Braves didn't get Adames for Contreras.

MLB needs to reign in the length of these contracts. 13 years is insane.

Eh, they can do whatever they want imo.

The thing is - for guys like Harper who also signed for 13...in theory he's probably worth $100 million/year by himself from like 2021 to 2026. Then his value depreciates drastically each year.

So all these teams are doing is spreading out the burden. They will be underpaying Harper or Boegarts or Correa (eh) for 4-5 years in terms of their value and then backpaying/overpaying them down the line.

Honestly, though, while I just talked about the value in the last post, this contract makes me think of a fantasy salary draft where there are like 6 elite running backs.

McCaffrey, Taylor, Kamara, Ekeler go off the board first for $60 because everyone is paying somewhat fair value.

Then when everyone realizes there are only 2 left, they all panic. Suddenly everyone panics for Saquon and Mixon and pay $75.

That's kinda how I feel on Correa. It's obviously one of the most important positions and he's really good but he just doesn't feel that special to me.

Glad the Cardinals didn't get Swanson (or any of the other good SS's).
