Enzo Fernandez and De Paul are redefining the central mid. What used to be the position of creativity and playmaking is now being used for hard hat defensive workhorses. I've been critical of both but in truth ever since we got out of the group they've absolutely shut down the oppositions midfield.

It works in tournaments, especially if you have Lionel Messi, but in league, I think you still need more creativity.

This penalty would be reviewed in Europe. There's little doubt.

The ref/VAR would be roasted if this penalty wasn't reviewed.

The basic thing is to call the ref to check the replay and then he'd have to embarrass himself by standing with his decision of rewarding a dive or reverse it (the more likely scenario).

Can the VAR ref call the pitch ref or is it only up to the latter to consult VAR?

Var ref tells the main ref he should go and review the call. The main ref cannot instigate the check, he can only be notified that he should go and take another look.

Yes, on a penalty, the VAR never overturns the penalty directly when it's "subjective".

In this case, the VAR would deem the contact to be minimal. So the ref would review that.
