Huge block by Clax.
I'm not going to complain but the Nets need to start games better.

Not the flashiest of games playing against a lesser opponent, but it’s a team dub.
OKC Thunder fan, too.

Win is a win.
Terrible start. Not a great ending though.
I think sometimes we rely too much on KD/Kyrie for offense.
Curry should play more. Warren too.

I' going to try to look at the bright side. A come back from down 19 is a confidence builder. The Pistons are an NBA team with talent and we were lucky to pull it off.
Also, I just looked it up Caris scored 37 in the forth quarter against the Celtics. So KD's 26 although great and a major part of why we won tonight was not a Net record......

While +/- isn't always reliable, I think it's very telling right now. The best +/- tonight are for the 3 best perimeter defenders. I question starting Royce, who excels guarding up, over Harris or Sumner.
The other issue was too much KD and Kyrie. They were great, but shouldn't be taking more shots than everyone else combined. They were doing too much, and the turnovers that yielded were potential killers.

I thought the same for Royce. He must be working through something. Probably best to give him a pass for now and see if he can back into form. Maybe another 5 to 10 games before we send him to the bench.

The team will be much better when/if Simmons is healthy enough to play 36 minutes or so
Too often we collapse defensively or resort to iso when he's not on the floor
Pretty obvious that JV is still experimenting with rotations and that Seth isn't 100% either
However, I think we have seen enough to conclude that playing all the munchkins together ain't it

Re: Nets @ Pistons 12/18 6pm
We won.. but we really need to stop with these horrible turnovers. We just throw the ball right into the opposing teams hands, it's just careless basketball and it'll haunt us. Kyrie and KD are great but they need to cut that down, it's soooo annoying.
And Kyrie need to get engaged on defense, he's like a black hole on that side. He needs to run thru screens and stop switching all the time, it's like he doesn't even try. And he always gets lost on defense and leaves a guy wide open smh. They just make the game alot harder for themselves.
Anyway, Celtics lost and we won so we gain a game up on the standings. We should beat GS without Curry but we can't let Poole drop 40 like he did today. We haven't had a comfortable win yet.

No way Curry shouldn't play more, we need Patty to play more. Curry is way too inconsistent and doesn't do much else other than shooting. Atleast Patty can be an annoying pest on defense even tho he'es not good on that end either and he's super fast. We can play more Curry if he's hot but if he's not then he needs to sit. Warren can play more but he still needs time to ramp up from the injury, can't just play him 30 mins yet.

I think this game is an example of when +/- is not very telling. I do not want three players who went one for four shooting more, even than Royce who went 4 for 6 with 3 for 4 threes. I actually think that our biggest problem this year, even more than our lack of size, especially before TJ became active, is the play of our reserve shooting guards. Sumner has helped because of his defense, but he is averaging 7.3 points and .6 on threes. Harris is at 8.6 points with 1,9 threes, and Curry, who has really surprised me, is at 8.8 points and 1.7 threes. Before the season started, I thought Harris, or at least Curry, would be strengths. And I haven't totally lost hope yet. Mills isn't even playing but he can't be worse, and he doesn't even make the big bucks. Royce had two lesser performances after coming back from personal leave, but even he is averaging higher than them at 9 points and 2,2 threes. We might think someone is better defensively, but I think if it were so JV is smart enough to have placed them on the threats Royce defends.
It amazes me that anyone who watched that first half, or even every game this season, can really believe KD and KAI shoot too much. Kyrie was all we had except for KD in the half. No one tonight could make a damn shot, and it was not an aberration. Not many can do what Durant did in that 3d quarter, and we fixate on the turnovers. Kevin does average 3.5 a game. But the top 30 on the turnover list run from 4.2 to 3.0 a game, and most are the whose who of basketball. I can understand the complaints, but we wouldn't be much of a threat, and blown out tonight, without Durant. And we should never think our offense broke down when we are in trouble and guys averaging 56% and 49% have to shoot. (63% and 52% tonight.)

Simmons just isn't close to the player he used to be.
Looked like he was getting there until his most recent injury.
But he needs to get back to the DPOY he once was. That would take this team over the edge.

Kyrie was in foul trouble all night. He usually way more aggressive on defense.

Also Vaughn needs to play Claxton at the end of games.
Simmons cannot be our rim protector. I would rather sit Simmons tbh until he gets back to form.

The wins are great and definitely a step in the right direction - but we really need to step up our quality of play over a full game. We're 10-1 in our last 11. We have 2 wins by double digits with an incredibly easy schedule. We've either been down big and came back or been up big and collapsed in the 2nd half.
Not playing your best and still winning is definitely a positive. But we have to hit another level if we want to be contenders. We're too inconsistent. Contenders don't just beat bad teams, they win by 20+.
Positive note is that we've surrounded KD + Kyrie with shooters and theyve both completely bought into our system. Both are putting on a show every single day.

I agree. He played most of the critical final minutes, fortunately. But he was in and out briefly a couple of times. I thought it might be an offensive-defensive thing, but the first time was him and Ben for Harris and Kyrie. So it could also have been just getting KAI in, or a foul shooting concern.
Actually, except when it's an obvious fouling situation, I want them both in at the end. Simmons is tied with KD as far and away our best rebounders after Nic. He seemed to get every critical board at the end of this game.
Most of all I think we are better offensively and defensively when he is on the floor, because he's a good distributor and KD and Kyrie can do what they do best. It sounds strange, since he hardly shoots, but when he does it's at 62%, and I was surprised that he's averaging within tenths of a point of his usual subs, Harris and Curry. So I, personally, prefer him starting even though I'm too sleepy to look up whether the stats indicate I'm wrong.

Re: Nets @ Pistons 12/18 6pm
Nets fans still don't understand Simmons obviously
He might be 6'10" but he isn't a rim protector and nor has he ever been
Just because he's tall doesn't make him a big 5 defender
He's arguably the best defender in the game because he can hunt down the likes of Dame/Steph/Harden/Luka while being a massive unit but isn't 100% yet

You forgot to mention that he can pass, set screens and rebound.
We don't need Ben to be Motumbo and block every shot. Perimeter defense is where we've been ass and he improved it. Both stats and eye test back it up.

We definitely do, but for that to happen we need TJ and Ben healthy logging some legit min. Until than this is going to be the way for us to win games. If anything KD and JV both be talked on it in post games.

Mediocre win, but we lost these games earlier in the season. This coaching stuff have lots of figuring out to do.
After new year this team will be getting tested with PO caliber teams.
We need both TJ and Ben healthy. If them to won't step up, we will get bounced by Buck, Miami or Saltics for sure. Even teams like Cavs and Philthy might do that, they got talent too.

Been through this with the Sixers
Simmons is a looooong way from being at his best and yet the Nets are improving with a bullet & the Sixers have gotten worse
Wonder why
