Ant clearly bulked in the summer, and probably wanted to use the early season for his cutting phase.

I think this is the right answer.
For those that don’t know, when bodybuilders want to add a lot of muscle, they eat a lot of food, primarily protein. Everything grows, not just muscle, but fat too, even though they try to eat leaner. Six weeks before a show, they radically alter their diet to lean up to remove the fat (cutting phase), but maintain the muscle.
So both of you can be right. Ant could have come into the season stronger than ever before with more muscle, but he also could have been fatter, and needed to lighten up. Towns is very aware of this - he had to do the same thing.

This is going to be a very entertaining lead-up to the trade deadline. These performances by guys like Naz Reid, Jaylen Nowell, D'Angelo Russell and others only opens up the options more for Tim Connelly as he crafts this roster. Kyle Anderson and Taurean Prince are vets who can fetch a little value if desired as well.

Whatever happened to Coby White (Bulls)? Just not that good? Too wild? Would you send Nowell for him?

At this point, I have no interest in moving any of the aforementioned players. Especially Nowell & Reid.
And from what you've seen thus far, how can you trust Connelly & Co with our roster? What am I missing?

DLo is the only piece we should move. But even if we attach a player like Prince what can we really get?
I think trading KAT is our only real move in the off-season.

I think Naz Reid is almost ideal five-out С for TOR. I would love to see something like Reid, Forbes, SRP for Precious Achuiwa.

Reid is way better than Precious right now and the two are the same age. Toronto - not Minnesota - would need to add draft picks to even out this deal.
Per 36
Reid 20.1 PPG, 8.9 RBG, 3.1 Stocks 35% from 3 (172 made 3s)
Achuiwa 14.3 PPG, 10.2 RPG, 1.8 Stocks, 33% from 3 (61 made 3s)

Interesting you’d say that. A TOR fan just posted on the Trade Board how they desperately needed a center than can get blocks and spread the floor. I suggested Naz, but they are hung up on Myles Turner.

Re: Trade Talk (Part Eleven): 2022 Offseason Edition
I expect a quiet Trade Deadline for us. Tim Connelly already made his “all-in” move for Rudy Gobert. He’s not going to abandon this multi-year strategy in the middle of this year, particularly since we haven’t gotten to see if it works, with Towns sick in pre-season and injured now.
In fact, I don’t see many players we have that would likely be traded. For example:
KAT - can’t be traded legally for one year after signing designated player extension
Gobert - won’t be traded for at least a year, to see if experiment works.
Ant - won’t be traded, as the face of the franchise, and the hope he becomes the #1
Jaden - won’t be traded. Wolves desperately need his defense
Anderson - won’t be traded. Connelly signing and everyone raves how he helps the team in multiple roles.
Prince- unlikely to be traded. He has added value to us as a team leader our young players respect
That’s a big chunk of our matching salary for any a trade. It’s possible we trade DLo (though we’d need to replace his shooting and playmaking), but if not, Naz (worth more to others than us), Nowell (if we decided we won’t pay him something like 3 for $50 this summer), and the rest are all cheap contracts that are tough to match. Not a lot of trade value here, since a team that wants Naz or Nowell may be able to offer nothing in trade, and simply sign them this summer, if they have the cap space. I suspect we stay put, and give the team more time to gel to see what we’ve got.

Turner's recent play screams "contract year." I would bet my house that after he gets a new deal he goes back to play only half the games. He's going to steal money from some team the next four years.

I know Russell has played well, but I still think it's more of a hot stretch than it is he's turned a corner. Would gladly move him if someone is gonna give us a nice deal.
Also would still love to get Caruso on this team with the bulls seeming to be imploding.

Russell's game has greatly improved since Ant took over a majority of the ballhandling. This has allowed Russell to focus on being a spot-up shooter which is where he excels. It doesn't mean I wouldn't trade him for the right deal, though.

I'd prefer not to trade Naz but if his play continues at this rate (or close to it) for the rest of the season, he's going to get paid and I'm not sure we can afford him with big money already tied up in KAT and Rudy. Reid's trade value has never been higher so if we were to trade him, now is the time.

Re: Re: Trade Talk (Part Eleven): 2022 Offseason Edition
I'm big on team chemistry. However, throughout history, the wolves have always found a way to disrupt it by either making moves too soon, too late or by moving the wrong player(s). Not to mention the coaching carousel.
While I do believe some trades/moves are inevitable with some players, I think holding onto certain players may be necessary for a certain period of time. Naz is a player who seems to mesh well with Ant. We've already moved players that had great chemistry with Ant and I think the team needs to be mindful of moving these types of players. It could lead to a bad situation with Ant.
I personally would hold onto Naz if we could. A stat I heard was that our most productive 3-man pairing on the floor is Ant-Nowell-Reid for whatever it's worth. I also wouldn't attach Prince to any deals unless it's a clear upgrade for the roster.

Re: Re: Trade Talk (Part Eleven): 2022 Offseason Edition
I am sick and tired of all "should we trade Towns" topics on reddit
. So here is my variant of trade if our FO decides to move him
Towns cant be traded during season. Based on this: Towns has 4 full years with team control (last year of his extension is a player option), OG Anunoby has only one full year with team control (last year of his extension is a player option). That is a big difference.
So my trade scenario would be:
Towns for OG Anunoby, FVV. No picks attached, BUT if it is possible I'd try to resign both FVV and Anunoby. 90-110 mil/4 yrs for Anunoby similar to A.Gordon deal), 120-130 mil /4yrs to FVV similar to Poole deal. I truly believe that Gobert (30yo), Anunoby (25yo) and FVV (28yo) might be close to ideal teammates for Edwards
Next season roster:
Gobert/Reid/Garza
Anunoby/Anderson/Knight
MCD/TP/Minott
Edwards/Moore/Dozier
FVV/JMac/???

KAT can be traded as of Jan 3rd.
Pretty sure that’s in season.

No. Players can’t be traded for one year after signing a player to a Designated Veteran contract or extension.
Towns had to wait to see if he made All NBA last year to be eligible, and signed his extension on July 1, 2022.
