Looking at the league, I can’t think of one obvious team that would want to trade for Trae.

I saw someone discuss KAT for Young which seems like something the T'Wolves would do. They'd have to move on from DLO and add more defense around Trae to make it work. He and Edwards would want to kill each other at some point though.
Trae, Edwards, Gobert, McDaniels, and (insert DLO replacement here) would be interesting, but I don't think it would substantially change their fortunes in the west, tbh.

Yeah, I wouldn’t want to mess with Ant’s development but I could see it happening. Seems like nobody likes playing with Trae and same goes for Gobert so it’d probably be a train wreck.

The Nuggets may want to try someone other than Jamal Murray in that role. I could see them interested in Young. I wonder if the Hawks would be willing to accept Murray and a bunch of picks back for him, though.

How would you build a credible defense around Jokic & Trae tho? Also, Trae’s complete disinterest playing off ball feels like it would put an artificial ceiling on that pairing.
The team that came to mind for me was Miami. They own most of their picks and Lowry will be an expiring next year.

One of the lowkey hardest things is to know when to hold on or sell high on guys during your rebuild. We made a surprisingly good decision w/ MCW. Bungled with Grant. MCW was good for us. Grant was inconsistant but once he got on better teams he was able to find his role and grow in it and THEN add to his game. MCW never was able to exist as a secondary guy (although you saw signs of that here with Wroten for example).
A lot of these rebuilding teams are going to have to make those decisions now before overpaying to keep guys who might plateau early...Keldon might be one of those dudes.
If alternative options (as good or better with what you have) are abundant, you cut early.
“Winners are strategic quitters”- Annie Duke
Keldon? If you get good offers, you trade him. You’re not missing much.
The best time to quit is when it feels too early.

Trae? You trade him NOW. I’ve said it weeks ago. You wont be able to win with him. You are not missing much with trae. Give me a top 5 pick and i’ll get you a similar guy.

If it's winning a chip we're talking about, totally agree. But Trae is a star who sells tickets and merchandise, and at the same time offers a floor of sorts, keeping a team 'competitive' and providing exciting moments.
We all assume that the goal of every team is championship or bust, but it really depends on ownership. I know nothing about Atlanta's owner, but he might not want to throw away what Trae already brings to the table for a rebuild and a potential lottery ticket.

You can question Trae ability to be the center piece around a championship team, totally valid. But by saying stuff like the remark, you only undermine your point.
If you could pick guys like Trae with any top 5 pick, there'll be no teams tanking for 5, 6 or 7 years

Naaaah. He's a tough guy to build around since he's such a defensive liability and is so ball dominant... But he's a pretty elite offensive player.
If I'm them I'd be sniffing around AD and Towns to try to form an elite offensive 2 man game partner, and then just continue what they've been doing with bringing in long athletes with shooting potential on the wing. Also need to find the next D'Antoni to mesh with him and get that offense to elite levels.
If someone wants to give them a crazy trade package for him though, you'd obviously have to consider.

I actually think that if you insert Trae on the Raptors that solve the issues both parts have and they actually become a real title contender.
Large athletic guys that can cover for his problems, guys who constantly move off ball that can work around Trae ball dominance. Trae solves their biggest issues right now which is a creator that can make the team work in the halfcourt

Yeah. I have a hard time envisioning him playing defense in that system, but that system's constant double teaming could help solve for him individually being such a liability in man coverage.
I guess they could build a package around Barnes and assets if Trey came on the market...

Makes it more feasible to trade him with people’s impression that they can still win with trae. It just means you can sell him high. Get out before others find out.

Trae is hard to build around the same way Iverson was hard to build around. I think Atlanta had the right idea by adding Murray next to him. Murray is a very good defensive player. De'Andre Hunter was supposed to be a lockdown defender at the 3 position, Collins as an active stretch four who provides athleticism and of course Capela who is just a very solid all around center. They also have a solid bench with the perfect combination of veterans and young players. To me, Atlanta has simply underachieved. Two years ago they looked like a team that was going to be a big time contending team as soon as these guys all matured a bit more. For some reason, it isn't happening, but I'm not sure that's because of Trae Young. If they do trade him, it's going to be a rebuild of sorts despite the young talent that they have on that roster. On top of that...What exactly are you going to get for him? I could see a team like Detroit being interested with the young talent and assets they have in waiting...Maybe Cunningham for Young if both teams want to take that risk? I don't know, I just don't see it happening right now. The way that Atlanta team is built, there should be no reason why they aren't a top seeded team in the east on a yearly basis. Sure, Young is hard to build around, but they've done a decent job at attempting to do so.
I personally don't care what happens to the Hawks. I'm still very mad about the playoff loss two years ago. I still dislike John Collins more than any player in the league. I'm not a fan of Trae Young at all, but he is a star player and he will generate a buzz around the league. In the end, I don't think he gets traded any time soon. Atlanta's problems are internal right now because they have more talent than a lot of teams with better records. There should be no excuses for them right now. I'm glad they're struggling, I hope they continue to lose.

Haliburton 10-16 from 3 today, guy leads the league in assists and commits fewer turnovers than the other high assists guys.
I feel vindicated on my position last season lol

Trae Young is shooting 40% FG% and 28% from 3 in the playoffs for the last 2 years.
Someone mentioned about Trae being a good fit for the Raps. Maybe. But Raps is also the kind of team that can shut down Trae. Teams are adding size, improving switchability and versatility on defense. Heat was able to lockdown Trae with Tucker last season. Maybe you’d see Franz Wagner being able to do that against the Hawks in the near future.
You want to build around a franchise player who has little to no flaws, where the player is vulnerable to none of very little match-ups. If you are building around a flawed franchise played, you are vulnerable to a lot of match-ups.
Anyway, its not our problem. If we face the Hawks, we can just let Tucker switch their PnR and neutralize their two man game. If they face the Bucks, he’ll have to deal with the giants of the Bucks. And once Raps and Magic rise in the east, the problem continues.
There’s never been a time in history when we look back and say that the people who were censoring free speech were the good guys.
