Let's face it
This is a ridiculous "award"
IF they actually gave it to the best player then neither Jokic or Embiid would be in the running & this thread would be dead
Carry on guys

what do you mean?
Why should they give it to the "best" player?
MVP does not equate "best"
you can be the "best" but sit out half the games due to injury and thus not be as valuable as another player (whose worse than u) to your team
it's also a regular season award
"best" in the context of NBA ball usually means - the most impactful player in the postseason

MVP has somehow morphed into being the best due to social media
LeBron would have won 10 or more if that's the criteria
Curry a couple
KD some
They're the best players
Does anyone actually think that Jokic is better than LeBron?
Let's get real here

Right now it's probably KD
He's setting scoring records while playing elite defence & is basically unguardable
He won't play enough in 2nd half of season to even be in contention for MVP

It's crazy to me
Literally the only thing that you can criticize LeBron about is not winning more titles but he's been the best player for nearly 20 years
It's a team game
He should have a minimum of 10 mvps

He's setting scoring records while playing elite defence & is basically unguardable
He won't play enough in 2nd half of season to even be in contention for MVP
which scoring record would that be?
KD is playing decent defense which is remarkable considering his age, injury history and the offensive load that he's carrying but he is nowhere near "elite" defensively
he does his part and that's alot
Nets defense owes alot more to guy like Claxton and Simmons
even this version of Simmons whose a negative on the court offensively is still one of the best defenders in the league and the numbers point to that as well
KD is 100% in the Convo right now and pretty high up at that
The Nets started losing a bunch so he was out of it but since they turned their season around and especially now when it looks like they might finish anywhere frm 1st to 4th - he is def a prime candidate for the award, so idk what ur talking about
why wouldn't he "play enough" in the 2nd half of the season, btw?
KD's game and frame allow him to be generally durable, he'll prefer playing by in large
i'm sure he'll sit here and there, but he will prefer to stay in rythm while adding to his numbers and accolades
as for the Lebron bit, r u talking about Lebron's prime or about right now?
at this present time Jokic is much better than Lebron and so are quite a few other players
that's not a knock on Lebron, he's 38
but idk what u mean by - does anyone think "Jokic is better than Lebron?"
if u meant in their primes, that's a whole diff discussion that doesn't belong itt but how is it relevant to the current MVP race?

Defense is literately half the game.
Why is this elite defence not translating to more wins??

It is, they were injured though. The 7 game win streak Philly is on its because of the defense. Philly has a top defense 2 years ago and was 1st in the league._NoMas wrote:Optms wrote:Colbinii wrote:I'm not sure what Giannis or Embiix being a better defender has to do with MVP. Problem has always been the offense but with Harden it's much better.

Embiid is 14-9 this season. Jokic is 19-9, very different win percentages despite Embiids elite defence. Are you saying that’s because of injuries to teammates? Hopefully you see the irony based on your criticism of Jokic for the past 2 play offs…

Embiid had no conditioning because of plantar fasciitis.
They were also integrating a lot of new pieces.
Even the LeBron Heat took a while to gel.

I’m saying it’s a strange argument to say defence is so important and why Giannis and Embiid are ahead of Jokic in the MVP race… when it’s not translating to more wins.
That said I have it very close between all 3, I think Embiid has found the perfect balance right now between elite scoring and elite defence, which I don’t think he always has in the past.

In year 2022 (and a couple of years back as well)?
Yes, probably the vast majority of basketball community, fans, media etc.

Because they are afraid once they put Jokic on top they will not be able to move him any more. Lessons from the past.

I'm joking Giannis, Tatum, Morant, Doncic, Embiid, Mitchell are all worthy candidates.
