How would you have made new Comiskey Park better?

Post#1 » by HDMAVS760CA » Wed Sep 26, 2007 7:26 am

I've been hearing on how ugly the new Comiskey Park is. I can't remember what the old Comiskey Park looked like. Last things I remember about it on tv is the looks of the dugout & the mound & batter's box. I think there was an area of left & right field green walls where either some fans special seats or the relief pitchers were hanging out. Jack Morris shutting out the Sox in 83 or 84. And the time on Monday Night baseball when Greg Luzinski hit that monster home run out of the ballpark in left field & another home run but into the stands & not out of the park. Can't keep all old things 4ever, there are new stadiums that don't look all that. How would you re do it? If you can describe it in words. Would you make it exactly like the old Comiskey Park or close to it?

I like "The New Comisky Park", I guess I'm one of the few. I went to the old lady back in it's last season in 1990 my first major sporting event, I was 9 at the time. In her hey day I'm sure she was beautiful, but she was a bit run down I thought.

I've been to the new park several times including it's first year in 91. I liked it a lot. Then they "modiefied it" and took off the upper deck, and put the canopy thing up. I hate that. Now the "cheap seats" have upstructed views, they should've left it alone and stopped trying to be like Wrigley.

I like the park the way it was from 91-03. It's not Wrigley Feild, Chicago already has one. People just like to complain. Now Soilder Field holy cow, that is a hot mess with that space ship looking bowl.

I haven't been there in awhile, but I never understood why people disliked it. I've always thought it was laid out great. You have a nice view from everywhere, plenty of bathrooms / concessions. It's easy to get in and out of the park and doesn't have the feel of small walk ways and overcrowding that a lot of parks do.

I don't know. It gets crap for being the last park that didn't go with some retro aesthetic feel, but I think it's a great park to watch a game from. Granted, I've only been to about 8-9 different pro baseball stadiums.

Doug, you have it right. You should catch a game there soon though if you haven't been there in awhile. It's an awesome underrated ballpark.
