Kyrie on the radar?
By looking at this team, many of us have the same concern, which is our guard rotation and a quality NBA level SG to complement Fultz and Cole. I know Suggs could be that option or answer. But he hasn't been available for 60% of the games since we drafted him. Suggs defense is very good. But he has an inconsistent scoring game, bad at finishing at the rim and below average 3pt FG %.
I know it is too early to have a discussion about our 2023 Summer Free Agency plan. But we have nearly 30M in cap space and could possibly go to 60M in cap space without un-guaranteed contracts. The biggest thing? We hold all our draft picks.
I know Kyrie has been on bad publicity so far. But the Nets are on a 10 game winning streak with Kyrie and KD scoring almost half of the points for the Nets. They are 14 and 1 in their last 15 games. And Kyrie is a big reason for that.
I was upset when LeBron resigned with Lakers since he'd be a Free Agent summer 2023. And Orlando could be his landing spot if he wants to play with Bronny. But anyway, let's forget about that
Kyrie is the Star Guard we need at our guard rotation. Someone who can create his own shots and deep range. PHX Suns traded for Chris Paul and they elevate themself from the bottom of the league to Western Conference contender. Kyrie could just do that for the magic, don't you think?
The goal for this season is simple: To learn how to win close games and level up our plays. We have done just that with our 6 game winning streak. We beat tough teams, playoff teams.
This upcoming western conference road trip will determine the plan for this season. We will face teams above 500 and on the road. If we play well enough, we have a chance to win. But if not, like tonight against Detroit, we'd be lucky to win 1 game. And we'd fall to Tanking mode again.
But to construct this roster, why don't we eye a surprise get in Kyrie Irving??
He could be the piece to turn this team to a winning team finally! And hopefully, a Championship contender!

Re: Kyrie on the radar?
Let's put the baggage that Irving brings to the side for a second...
To those who want to sign a star, I say this: unless he's THE guy, there's no reason to do it. The play should be to designate Paulo as THE guy, develop your own talent, and then sign a star who puts you over the top. Examples include Rashard Lewis and Horace Grant.
If we sign someone to a max deal now, we limit the amount of guys we can resign on our own team. I realize we own their Bird rights and can go over the cap, yada, yada, yada, but we need financial flexibility to build a sustainable winner.
And you know who isn't a winner? Kyrie Irving.

It is interesting that the worst statistical season of his career is the year he won a Championship.

I’ve never read anything Kyrie Irving wrote on a computer but supposedly he’s an anti-Semite and thus will never be considered by the Magic, the most squeaky clean team in the NBA. Disney would be boycotted.

Re: Kyrie on the radar?
Throw out his off-court stances for a second, the Nets may very well win the NBA title this season.
Things change quickly. 6 weeks ago it was a guarantee the Nets were going to release Kyrie. Now they very well may sign him to a new deal.

Before the Nets peeled of 14 of their last 15 i would have said he would be a target. Winning fixes a lot of problems, including perception of players.

Re: Kyrie on the radar?
I understand the Star argument with Kyrie Irving. He’s a major upgrade to what we have in the backcourt. But….this team not only needs a star guard it needs a leader. Kyrie is as far away from that as a player gets. He’s pure drama, his stints “leading” Boston and the Nets pre-Durant are prime examples of how inept he really is. Boston had Tatum and Jaylen Brown with him, and Marcus Smart flanked them to the best team in the league. That speaks volumes, as does James Harden forcing his way out of Brooklyn due to Irving’s antics. I’d say keep building via the draft, Boston, Golden State, and Memphis are proof that it works.

Re: Kyrie on the radar?
I'm not even joking, I'd probably stop watching the Magic play while he was here. The guy is a nut case and I can't stand him. I won't go into details further than that.

Won't happen. But, could see him easily down in Miami if they move Lowry.

Kyrie on the radar?
I am just thinking about the cap space and timeline of this team to become a championship contender. Kyrie could just do that. Plus it is free

Re: Kyrie on the radar?
I think the Magic taking a swing at acquiring Trey Young is the more likely scenario. Irving’s rep is in the toilet, and he can’t win if he’s option A.

Re: Kyrie on the radar?
Kyrie has been lights out. Plus he is negotiating a new contract with Nets now. But still a lot of uncertainty whether he will stay with Nets.
What is the maximum Salary Cap Space we can retain in the 2023 Summer? If so, are you willing to offer Kyrie a max contract?
Also James Harden could be a Free Agent also. He was reported in interested in coming back to Houston Rockets.
Those two are probably the two biggest fish in the Free Agent market for 2023 Summer.
I hope we have a chance but realistically I don't think so. But as a fan, it is all about having fun

Re: Kyrie on the radar?
If we're just using cash to get him and not sending valuable assets back to the Nets, absolutely. I've been on board with the idea for years. He's actually a team player on the court and let's others shine. I highly doubt we can get him though.

Great player but too much baggage for a young team.

IIRC it prompted him to come out publicly and declare that he needs "his team" to shine. Right after getting a ring. SMH.
