What on earth happened to Chris Duarte?

Keep in mind he plays on the same team that has Haliburton

People who complain about a disappointing sophomore season (looking at youuuu Raptor complainers) don't know what a real disappointing season looks like.

For pete sake, this guy was at one point leading the ROY last year, heck i'd easily take Suggs over him now, yeesh.

Indiana fans have Fish and Eggs this year so it's all good.

Are we pretending ITT that Haliburton makes his teammates better?

He really struggled at the start of the Season. Maybe it had something to do with Rick putting him at the 3 (he used to play 2 last year).

Then he injured his ankle pretty badly and was sidelined for like 1 month.

He slowly getting back.

In terms of pure stats, he's basically Steve Nash right now and there's no prime Amare on that team. Mathburn is a promising rookie but he's not Pheonix Amare on offense.

He's been injured for a good chunk of it?
Missed pre-season, missed end of last year. and has missed a solid chunk this year

Why couldn't you simply google this before posting a thread about it?

Nothing happened. He came in as an older rookie, meaning his game was mature already

Hot streaks and cold streaks regress to some mean, it just doesn't seem like young players go hot and cold because they're still growing, so their mean is increasing, even as performance bounces around that mean

But guys like Landry Fields, Duarte have hot streaks out of the gate so even though their age means their mean won't change much, it feels like they're supposed to be better than they are

Before his injuries he was actually playing well, although the stats don't show up. Maybe I just thought he had a good tempo and control to his game.

Raptors fan taking a shot at Suggs... what a shocker.

From what statmuse was reporting last year, no guard in the league was better on defense than Suggs except some guy named Marcus Smart. I think he maybe won some kind of award or something, but he might just be some no-name.

His stats tell us how much context matters. Pacers were a mess last year, and he came in as an older rookie and got minutes. He played well but they still ended the season with under 30 wins. Lots of minutes and shots available when you’re not playing to win, and he took advantage of it. This year they’re a much better team, so competitive to get minutes. Obviously he’s been hurt also.

This doesn’t make him an empty star guy last year, just opportunistic. Lots of players have done this in a contract year and made big money as a result- Hedo Turkaglu and Hassan Whiteside come to mind.
Others have had a good year and then disappeared, MCW the classic example. We’ll see how Duarte does.

He literally just came back from injury. You guys on here need to let players breathe and come back into form, we see it time and time again on here. "Simmons is finished" and look how that turned out. Ya getting on Middleton too, give him some time. Guys aren't going to come back dropping 50 pts their first game back, relax ! I'm tired of seeing threads of guys literally just coming back from injury and you ppl here saying "he's finished", it's annoying af.

To start the year he just looked AWFUL. Couldn't do anything right. Then he got hurt, which I thought might be a blessing in disguise to give him a break. He's looked slightly better since coming back, but there's still limited time available.

When he played last year what was ahead of him on the depth chart at SG/SF to start the season? His competition was Levert/Brogdon who's out all the time, Jeremy Lamb, Torrey Craig, and Duane Washington Jr. Now we have Haliburton/Hield/Mathurin. Nesmith and Nembhard have looked great on defense and are earning their minutes. There just isn't a lot of time available because of the roster moves.

Duarte is like a Hedo or a Norm Powell.

One year he is sucking with low TS. Next year he a key contributor. This is how I see his career playing out.

I think Duarte just turned 36 or something. He's over the hill.
Brian Geltzeiler: You see Mark Jackson getting a head coaching job as early as next year?

Adrian Wojnarowski: Not if people make calls on him. Not if an organization is doing their homework and knows all the things he brings with him.

Let's not get ahead of ourselves here. Steve Nash wasn't special because of his stat line. He was special because he was pretty much always running the offense for the team with the most efficient offense in the league.

Indiana is currently middle of the pack in offensive efficiency.

I'm taking my time on forming my opinion on Haliburton. He is mostly theory and projection right now. I've been around long enough to have seen plenty of 20 and 10 guys on good efficiency that don't really elevate their teams to the requisite heights for stardom. Right now, Haliburton's stat line flatters and exceeds his actual performance, but he also isn't a finished product.
