Re: 2022-23 English Premier League Discussion Thread
The NBC Sports crew was interviewing Saka after the match.
Rebecca Lowe told him Arsenal is really popular in America right now.
Well there will always be front runners in any sport, in any country, except for the supporters of rival clubs.
They have a lot of good young players, who'd be recognized wherever PL matches are broadcast. But I don't think they quite have players who'd sell crazy volume of jerseys all over the world, at least not yet.
Amazon featured Arsenal's last season over here in the US so that may have also helped the club become better-known, maybe even gain some fans.

Sedale Threatt wrote:VAR gets a lot of sht, perhaps rightfully so. But Arsenal would have gotten one of the worst PKs in the history of professional sports without it vs. West Ham. Pure homefield call. Odegaard takes a wicked shot outside the box that deflects off a defender. Ref points to the spot for an apparent handball ... except it clearly hit him in the face, nowhere near a hand.
This is why I value instant replay in sports. There are going to be hard judgement calls or bad ones you can't change because it's still justifiable under the letter of the law. Just fix the egregiously ball calls, like that one, and I can live with most of the rest. Imagine suffering a PK like that in a cup final with no recourse.
I feel like VAR eliminates 50-70% of the big mistakes.
The remainder of mistakes is just incompetence pf the refs that nobody is going to ever fix.

I just think it's crazy that you'd go from having Hazard as your wing to Christian Pulisic. I'd be sad if i were chelsea.

“The other day I saw one of his games. He was running with the ball at a hundred per cent full speed, I don’t know how many touches he took, maybe five or six, but the ball was glued to his foot. It’s practically impossible.”

I actually thought he was quite poor last night, by his standards, which is quite a scary prospect when you consider that he still scored two goals. He also missed two sitters that he should have scored with his eyes closed.

Ten Hag seems to have brought some stability to United, they're playing nice football now. Granted, it was against Burnley and a weak Forest team, but you can see those smooth Ajax-like patterns of play developing when they advance the ball.

Even Leicester looked good against lower level teams and Forest. I expect them to be trounced by Liverpool tomorrow though, Nunez will probably get a hat-trick.

Fair point. United are also one of the only teams to beat Arsenal this season, and put up a great winning display against Liverpool themselves, so they're doing it against good teams too. Their main issue has been consistency, and with Ronaldo gone you'd assume there will be fewer distractions. They have an EL playoff against Barcelona coming up soon too, so that will be a test.
I've rated Ten Hag for a long time and wanted him at Spurs the summer Mourinho was sacked, so I'm watching United with some personal interest.

I'm sure that Man U are a top 8 club. I think my comment was more introspective and perhaps a comment on the averageness of the bottom 12. Leicester should be top 8 and yet we haven't even beaten a top 10 side this season.

I've thought about this question a number of times and still don't really have an answer.
I think the uncertainty over his future is affecting the performances of some players, though.

Score a goal, don't let Liverpool players score a goal. Lose. amazing.
Liverpool are another average and inconsistent premier league team. They aren't making top 4 like this. The premier league has very few "outstanding" teams this season.

Wolves clearly the better team in the first half. Sad to see Ref bias towards big 6 teams for free kicks / fouls/ bookings.
