God damn.

One thing I noticed was that Tatum has seen a huge surge in assisted baskets, both 2 pointers (51%) and 3 pointers (68%), this season. The last three seasons, when Tatum was hovering around league average or just above it, he was being assisted on between 38-42% of 2 pointers and 46-52% of 3 pointers (the lower limits both coming in that awful 2020-21 season). Tatum himself made huge strides in his game but have to credit Joe and his teammates minus Jaylen Brown for getting him better looks, and Brad for getting him some better teammates who can handle the ball.

Love him to win MVP but I think Luka’s going to runaway with it

Random:

Celtics win % when Jayson Tatum scores…

• 20+ pts: 67.7%
• 25+ pts: 71.0%
• 30+ pts: 75.0%
• 35+ pts: 83.8%
• 40+ pts: 88.2%
• 50+ pts: 100%

I suggest JT score 50+ pts every game for an 82-win season.

Tied to this, we are 22-3 in his 25 highest usage games, including 17-0 in the top 17.

They briefly talked about the MVP Ladder on NBATV last night and Steve Smith and Brendan Hayward both have Tatum #1. Mainly because of team record and because he plays both ends of the court in contrast to some of the other MVP candidates.

But we have to appreciate him cause he is proud of that, he doesn't hide. Others are JB haters but they don't have the courage to admit it.

Does that matter with this generation of media and fans loving stat stuffers?? It seems like gaudy numbers > anything else.

Well as far as MVP, fans don't get a say. It's media, and guys like Smith and Haywood are media. So that's why I find their takes to be notable, as it tells us how the MVP race is being seen by folks who might actually get a say.

Jokic and Luka are dominating the MVP thread/poll on the GB. Which, they are amazing and either might win. At the same time it strikes me that there are a ton of European fans on the GB. Someone made a poll about it over the summer asking people where they live and a slight majority was not American and in particular there were a ton of Europeans.

Which, I'm not complaining about that at all, I like the international presence. And Jokic or Luka could def win MVP. At the same time it makes sense that Euro fans are fans of Euro players. So I'm not sure the poll over there really tells us how the race is being seen by those who will actually vote on it. (Just realized most of this had little to do with your comment lol.)

The real greats and MVP either had it or at some point realized it at some point early on that they had to perhaps reduce points and up assists, rebounds, etc. The stuff that helps the team win. Tatum hasn't reached that point yet. Closer perhaps, but not there yet. If he ever wakes up, and that's if, then we can proceed to championships. Becuase I'm a Celts fan and I'm championship driven and **** everything else.
