Game#39 Heat @ Clippers Monday 1/03 7:30pm

Post#1 » by PeteyPablo » Mon Jan 2, 2023 7:47 pm

I’m pro Clippers all the way and have been since 1991.

But these last three losses on the road :
76ers
Celtics
Pacers

Had a few things in common.

76ers , James harden shredded the defense as he ended with 21 assists. There were open three point shooters the entire 2nd half. The 76ers out hustled the clippers in that second half. 76ers had 58 points in the paint.

Celtics , the game was within reach up to the last 5 minutes of the game. Small ball hurt the clippers as they gave up points at the rim and could not stop the layups.
Celtics had 54 points in the paint

Pacers had 58 points in the paint.

Clippers are giving up too many points in the paint while running small ball for too long of a stretch. Maybe they don’t care about regular season too much and are okay risking being a play in team. If they are a playin team , then I can not support a team that does not have more fight in them. We need a rim protector - what happened to
Moses brown ? Diabate? Aside from the careless turnovers and stagnant offense ..

The plus minus stats are good but they don't always tell the whole story. I don't think coaches pay much attention to these stats especially in games.
This team has played itself out of winnable games and Ty Lue has to take most of the blame for that. I'm not going negative on the coach or the team but I'm not feeling as positive now as I was a few weeks ago.
This team has all the tools to beat a team like the Heat but a few lapses here and there and it ends up a loss.
Hoping they turn it around and start beating teams they should because it's going to get very very tough.

I hear coaches quote plus/minus stats in postgame pressers all the time. Even if they don 't follow the stat literally, it reflects what they see with their own eyes--the scoreboard doesn't lie.

Plus/minus is very useful in comparing members of the same team, as well as evaluating combinations. The cream rises to the top.

This totally validates Ty's distribution of minutes--except for continuing to invest in Wall and before that, Norman Powell. The investment in Powell after his hideous start has already paid off. But I don't know how long the Wall experiment can continue. We may indeed see non-PGs Mann and Kennard trying to eat up some minutes there.

But playing the G-Leaguers is not paying off either. If you hate the losses now, you're really going to hate the growing pains of 22-year-old second-rounders.

I agree plus / minus is useful and pretty accurate in terms of on court production and fit.

All I am saying is when the team is getting abused at the rim. Play a longer , taller , more athletic player to mitigate or alter the shots at the rim.

Are trades coming ?

Do we just trust the process of the season’s learning curve ?

As for todays game - Clippers are the favorite

I see them winning by 12 points

As for the b/u center problem, Moses and Diabate are getting killed out there. We cannot throw away games trying to develop marginal prospects. The FO has to be concerned at this point. If Zu gets injured, we are DEAD MEAT.

Agree on the developing Moses/Moussa comment, and I want to see both stick as I think Moses has the tools, physically, just needs to learn the game and Moussa has just been impressive.

Diabate has showed enough where he deserves more time, and will help around the paint on both ends, and can drain a jumper here and there. Good athleticism.

Time for Kennard, Covington, and Mann to step up. (Batum/Kawhi likely out).

Feeling An Automatic Win Tonight

Post#9 » by Wammy Giveaway » Tue Jan 3, 2023 2:23 am

Mann is starting, Batum is back, and the biggie:

Clippers are one loss away from a three-game losing streak.

Clippers always play well after suffering back-to-back losses. Just like when they were down 2-0 in every round of the 2021 NBA Playoffs. The fear of a three-game losing streak in which an automatic series loss is triggered as no team in NBA playoffs history has ever come back from a 3-0 deficit is their greatest motivation. And they have no ejections, another reason why they'll be just fine.

They need to always think that they've lost two games in a row. That should be their mantra.

Anyway, Clippers got an automatic win tonight.

On another note - have you all been voting for the all star game ?

I’ve put in a few votes or a few days of voting in so far .

ALSO , I did a thing over the weekend.

I purchased three SGA rookie cards. They are Panini Prizm base , Silver Prizm and Pink Ice Prizm.

I am geeked.

One of the first cards I hit on a break was a tricolor Shai patch out of select. One of my top PC cards

first thing i see wall do is go for a drive and dish when he easily coulda jacked a shot

next thing i see him do is try to make another play by driving and passing.

there's hope yet!

Yes, but we should make a better effort not to have him be the guy to take the last shot of a quarter.

Our effort sucks this quarter. Most frustrating part has been us staring at the ball on shots instead of boxing out.

Just flat out embarrassing basketball being played in front of the home crowd. Some good ball movement here and there in the 1st. Then comes 2nd quarter, guys looking like they have never played with each other before. There's no system, no consistency. Defensively they are scoring at will, keep in mind Miami is last in PPG in the league.
