Re: is Klay done?
The Klay and Poole threads are so predictable. When they make shots, "**** the haters!". When they don't, "the contract is KILLING us"
Both just need to recognize when their shot isn't dropping as much and try and defer a bit more when that happens. Klay used to do that more, Poole still hasn't grown into that yet, and might not ever. Klay obviously the tougher watch because his overall defense is slipping and at his age, with his injury history.. the good games are going to be fewer and fewer. But let's be real - he's not going anywhere, and the best case scenario for him to leave the team is at the end of next season, realistically. I'd love for it to be sooner, but its just a pipe dream

Klay is declining, but he is still shooting an above average percentage from 3, and he has been getting better on defense as his legs have gotten more used to playing. He started terribly because he took the whole summer off.

He's also trying a bit harder to a) keep the ball moving and b) cut out the insane leaning shots. Though it still seems tough for him to accept his limitations.
If he can do that, like you said, an above average 3pt shooter is still helpful. If he can get back to the level from 3 we expect from him and become a higher volume Kyle Korver, there's very real value in that. What we can't have is him killing us on defense and doing the constant 1 good 1 bad game rotation.

True, but we need him to keep bombing away while Curry is out. He & Poole are the only guys who can put up numbers right now. Once Curry comes back everyone needs to be more selective with their shots when they share the floor with him.

Re: is Klay done?
Crickets from the haters, not just tonight but the last week or two. Hell his scoring has been going up every month.
There were glimpses of peak Klay tonight. I don't mean the volume but making a couple of contested and clutch pull up 3s.
One against Collins in the corner, where he pump faked and escaped dribbled to hit a 3 in the 4th quarter or one of the OT periods.
Then the pull up 3 at the top of the key on Justin Holliday.
That was what he was doing most of the 2019 Finals series vs. Toronto when he was making 3s in the face of Kawhi and Siakam. He was shooting over 50% from 3 in that series I believe, before he got injured.
He was better than Steph in that series.
He still doesn't have the consistent lift and form compared to pre-injuries. He may be adjusting to his diminished lift.
Maybe Curry won't be the only one having a renaissance in he approaches his mid 30s.

Re: is Klay done?
Just the fact that Klay is able to play a double overtime game is a blessing after his 2 major injuries. To be able to drop 50+ is amazing. He’s not even at 100% yet, either.

Nothing is making me more happy than seeing KT come back towards his former self.

I love me some good Klay. I hope it keeps up when he's no longer needed to be the 1st or 2nd option.

Re: is Klay done?
If he can average 23ppg on good shooting numbers over the next 10 games, then he is really back.
I wouldn't judge him by 1 outstanding game he had. He still has many poor shooting nights, 8-22 type shooting days.
He's still 41% fg on the season. I think let's look at his next 10 games, if he can shoot 45% fg then I would say he is out of the woods.

Other than Curry, who else do you want to take a big shot on the team?
Wiggins is shooting really well so far but there will likely be regression.

This guy is playing 45 minutes and putting up 39 shots after 2 injuries that have ended peoples' careers and some still take it for granted

I'd rather him take less shots at higher efficiency. You don't get points for strong effort or willing spirit, you get points for made baskets.

At this stage of his career, in the Warriors' "system" is Thompson more a shooting guard or power forward?

Re: is Klay done?
If only they played the games through stat match ups, right? Players need to get in a rhythm and see their shots fall to start hitting them in a row. Klay's history has seen him missing a bunch in a row -- often wide open shots -- and then hitting a bunch in a row, often heavily contested. That doesn't mean I don't think he should be more judicious with shot selection, but I don't think taking less shots necessarily means higher efficiency.zhuangcorp wrote:parsnips33 wrote:This guy is playing 45 minutes and putting up 39 shots after 2 injuries that have ended peoples' careers and some still take it for granted
