Jacque Vaughn & Jamahl Mosley

Post#1 » by ogmagicfan » Tue Jan 3, 2023 9:49 pm

I can't help but notice how Jacque Vaughn has been incredible since taking over the Nets head coaching position. 12 Game win streak & counting. Longest this in the NBA this season I believe. They're contenders now and a trade for a stretch big away from being favorites in my opinion.

Of course Jacque coached here for multiple years, caught alot of criticism, showed signs of promise, but also had some questionable decision-making, which I'll touch on later.

Which raises the question when it comes to Jamahl Mosley. I believe Jamahl has been doing an even better job than Vaughn did stepping into very similar situations. Teams beginning rebuilds.

Of course we got alot luckier in the draft, and have more resources this go around, so it looks more promising. However I believe a decent amount of the "questionable decision making" is the coach, let it be Vaughn or Mosley getting the call from upper management to sell the game.

I mean we can just use December as an example that Mosley is a competent coach, and I think is someone who should be given a chance to show what he can do with this team as it develops and has an actual org trying to win games, and not just relegate him as some kinda "stop-gap" coach until we see what he can do next season. I don't think it's fair to him.

I’m just glad that they both have gotten the opportunity to get the head coaching jobs. I think Mosley deserves a fair shot, but until team is healthy, we really don’t know what this team can do under Mosley’s leadership. I will say ken thing, even in our losses, Mosley get his guys up to play. With that, I am thankful.

Yeah, he's been solid IMO. No team ever looks good with young talent consistently. It takes a lot of factors for everything to go right, but still, I like how this team has played for the most part. Some stinkers recently and during that stretch where we have guys out all the time, but it happens.

Clifford looks useless in Charlotte, Pop is rebuilding with a bunch of young guys, Kerr looked lost with Curry gone that one year. Some posters are never happy with any coach, but I look at a lot of forums and I'd say 80% of them are bitching about their coach at any given moment.

For what the team needs, I think Mosley has been doing a great job so far. What remains to be seen is how he handles a team that has more expectations on it.

I think it's a near guarantee that Mosley will get at least one season of being the head coach when the expectation organizationally is to win. And no, that is not this season.

When that time comes - and I think it will be next season - if the Magic don't win enough, he'll be fired and replaced with a more proven "win now" coach.

If we make any kind of move for a free agent, i hope we let Mosley go and get an established coach.

I just dont see use bringing 2, top 10 picks and another rebuilding year with Paolo and Franz. My guess is they will go after a true 1st-2nd option, and get an established coach.

Id pretty much put everything but Paolo, Franz, WCJ on the table for, which is A LOT of power to get a free agent. We have expirings, two top 10 picks most likely, and a lot of young guys on rookie deals.

Agreed.
thought the team played hard all year last year, and are doing so this year too.
Really, with the injuries and youth, that is all you can ask of a coach.
Also, his willingness to tinker with lineups is refreshing after previous coaches.

I like Coach M. a lot.
Hope he's able to get us winning when management gives him the green light.
Would be terrific to have a winning coach who's also likeable.
And he's into MMA. :)

Definitely after two years. 5 maybe no, if we dont make it near the Finals by then.

Great communicator and guys are buying into what he is teaching, despite all the losses. I think he got the locker room under control

Speaking of former Magic coaches (assistant in this case)... you've got to wonder how much longer Ewing will remain coach of Georgetown Hoya's who have now lost 25 straight in-conference games.

https://www.cbssports.com/college-basketball/news/patrick-ewings-seat-grows-hotter-as-georgetown-sets-big-east-record-with-25th-consecutive-conference-loss/

Not sure how many of those were his but he's been there SIX years now.
Thought for sure he'd be fired a few years ago.

I voted maybe, but am leaning yes. Especially since 2 years isn't that long in the grand scheme of things.

What is your issue with Mosley in general? You've been beating this drum for awhile now, just curious. You don't think he'd deserve a shot to work with the team that he coached under the rebuild, where the new direction would be to win? I think you're being a bit unfair. These guys play hard for him and from an outside observation clearly like him.

I voted yes.

Hot take: I think he will end up being the best coach in franchise history.
