Marvin Bagley out indefinitely with hand injury

Bummer. I haven't watched the last couple of games very closely so I don't know if a specific injury led to it?

Get ready for many more Nerlens Noel sightings...

Not good at all, but silver lining is that Noel should get some burn and maybe increase his trade value leading up to the deadline.

Hopefully it doesn't mean that Noel is in the rotation, but that we still start Duren and Stew but Duren gets subbed out first and then comes back to sub in for Stew. Diallo and Knox are both solid rebounders so it should work.

Starters:
Killian
Ivey
Bojan
Stew
Duren

Bench:
CoJo
Burks
Diallo
Bey
Knox

When Livers gets back you then possibly move one of CoJo or Knox to the 11th man spot.

Stew plays the entire 1st and 3rd quarters and the last 6 minutes of the 2nd and 4th for a total of 36 MPG.
Duren plays the entire 2nd and 4th quarters and the first 6 minutes of the 1st and 3rd quarters for a total of 36 MPG.

Not to be Debbie Downer here.... but does it matter? Does any of it actually matter? Honestly, kinda feels like we just need to get to the last 20 or so games in a position to finish bottom 4 and like... that should happen regardless.

Hopefully we continue to play hard, see some development and we avoid any significant or long-term injuries, but we could run Bey out there as an undersized 5 and our fortunes aren't going to be any worse. Sucks for Bagley, but the team will muddle through.

Given where this season was already going due to injuries and no real high expectations anyway even if everyone was healthy and playing decently (30-35 wins) this really doesn't matter.

Nope, it doesn't matter whatsoever. At this point, if the Pistons don't finish with the worst record in the league, I'll be shocked.

I'm just once again hoping the Pistons end up with the #1 pick again, or at the very least, the #2 pick. This injury to Bagley, however insignificant it may seem, still dwindles the talent available even more, ensuring a bottom record.

If Bagley didn't play with his Johnson, these things wouldn't happen.

Seriously, I wanted him to have some success so we could trade him.
We're not getting that. <sigh>

Bagley was a guy we needed when there was a thought towards making meaningful on-court progress this year. We weren’t off to a great start before we lost Cade, but all hope for that truly and entirely went out the window when Cade went out for the year.

He wasn’t/isn’t brimming with untapped potential- just sort of a guy you could get some reasonably predictable production out of.

I hope he has a nice speedy recovery for his own sake, but yeah for the team it doesn’t really matter.

Just ride the year out, finish bottom three, and cash in those Victor lottery scratchers. There’s a 6 in 7 chance we don’t get him even with a successful tank but it’s the best we can dream of.

Someone on another site cracked me up with, "Bagley injured his hand trying to carry his wallet"

Excellent satire.

Guy is the definition of a glass cannon, can get you decent offensive production seemingly with ease on some nights but then just implodes down the line. He's never had a fully finished a healthy season either in his entire career thus far. Always with the minor to somewhat moderate nagging injuries

Not like we were ever really going to make a splash with any meaningful amount of wins to start the season anyhow but the tank rolls on

Man what a insult to us as Pistons fans. GM led the team to garbage, not actually looking that great next year unless Cade somehow becomes a poor man's Luka and our only real hope is a 1 in 7 lottery ticket.

It’s a tragic bit of irony that we stopped doing the very harmful “let’s try really hard to get to 30 meaningless wins” thing right when the lottery odds changed.

I’m not sure I oppose the change but it has hurt us.

It only matters in terms of his development and how he could've grown as player for us. I reject the narrative that he has no remaining upside.

He for sure still has upside, but he's already very skilled on offense. I feel like part of his struggle is just like Drummond where some nights he is engaged and active and playing hard, and other nights he kind of just goes through the motions and if he isn't getting the touches on offense he often also doesn't have the effort on the boards and on defense.

I actually think he's been pretty solid, and better than last year on man to man defense versus other bigs this year as well. He's just another player that really needs to bring it each night to really be effective.

I feel like Bags also probably had more chemistry with Cade than with any other guard on the roster. I don't feel like we set him up as well this year to get shots near the hoop, and I'm guessing Cade being out is a part of that.

This is a bummer. I felt Bagley would earn that contract this year but he has missed so much time. Stewart, Duren and Bagley should be sufficient for our C minutes next year and some PF too. Need another solid big. Noel will be gone.

Noel has been playing well with Duren and Beefstew out. Hopefully someone will overpay for him on the trade market.

Marvin Bagley sucks indefinitely regardless of hand status

Yup, has made some really nice defensive plays and also avoided fouling on several reach ins / swipes of the ball. He's still a really solid defender. Plus he knocked down a 3 like it was nothing.
